Equipment Mechanic Jobs description
Equipment mechanic jobs are necessary to maintain and repair heavy equipment used by the utilities sector of the government. The mechanic will have to work on heavy machinery and diesel engines, for which he needs to, have gone through a vocational school and have a diploma or an associate’s degree in the relevant field.The two year associates degree in diesel technology is offered in several community colleges. Hands-on training and internships are necessary to get a practical experience, without which getting a job is hard. Equipment mechanics are also responsible for hydraulic, electrical and other heavy machines. Diesel mechanics are among the top paid professionals in this field.
They get to work on earth movers, bulldozers, paving machines, cranes and concrete mixers. These mechanics not only have to be able to operate these heavy machines but also be able to carry out routine maintenance and minor repairs. This is a physical job and the mechanic has to be in good health to carry out his duties all year round. The hourly pay rate for most equipment mechanics was around $20 in 2008.
