Hawaii's government job count is up

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, government jobs statewide increased 2.9 percent from 122,700 in October 2007 to 126,200 jobs in October 2008.
Local government employment is at a record 18,700 jobs, up 3.3 percent from a year ago.
State government jobs are up 2.5 percent to 74,900 compared to 73,100 a year ago.
Shipbuilding and repairing jobs, which had been on the decline, were up 5 percent from 4,000 to 4,200 year-over-year.
