The Washington State Department of Community Trade & Economic Development is closing its Olympia headquarters on Fridays as part of the shift to a four-day workweek.
The change affects about 300 workers at the agency, the largest to be affected by Democratic Governor Christine Gregoire’s test of the shorter week to save energy.
Others are the Department of Veterans’ Affairs and the Department of Archaeology & History Preservation.
The
Olympian newspaper reports many workers are happy with the resulting three-day weekend.
Officials are tracking
energy savings and employee performance to determine if other agencies will go to the shorter workweek.
