Summer Camp Jobs description

A summer camp counselor is responsible for keeping campers on schedule with activities, settling arguments between campers, making sure everyone is as safe as possible, and leading camp activities. A summer camp counselor provides daily activities like crafts, outdoor games, music, and so forth and has other responsibilities of the regular counselors, especially at smaller summer camp and themed camps, like computer camps, hire multiple special counselors every summer. A summer camp counselor supervises and manages campers at all times except during scheduled times off. A summer camp counselor’s work includes assisting with camper management in class, dormitory rooms, and dining hall. A summer camp counselor participates in activities such as exhibition games, competitions against counselors from other local summer camps, talent shows, the camp band, and the end-of-the-year musical. A summer camp counselor accompanies campers to out-of-camp events, including camping trips, whitewater rafting, whale-watch cruises, ball games and summer camp counselor is responsible for ensuring kids are safe, having fun and engaged in interesting recreational and educational activities.

A summer camp counselor requires a bachelor’s degree. A summer camp counselor should have lots of energy, patience, and creativity, extremely comfortable supervising, teaching, and managing children, organization, leadership, and a dedication to one’s work community are all necessary. Experience with residential camping programs, working with children, wilderness trips; leadership experience in school and community, background or interest in natural history, ecology and/or environmental education are required for summer camp counselor job.
