Overall Job Objective Description of Work Central Regional HospitalWhere Caring is Contagious! The NC Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is one of the largest, most complex agencies in the state, with approximately 18,000 employees. We are currently recruiting for a Food Service Assistant II at Central Regional Hospital (CRH). CRH is a State-of-the Art psychiatric hospital located in Butner, NC. Our location is ideal with four seasons, mild temperatures and provides an easy commute to the N.C. mountains or beaches. Butner possesses small town charm but is within 30 minutes of a major metropolitan area including Research Triangle Park, Raleigh, Chapel Hill, and Durham, NC. The people we serve are at the heart of our facility. Our team is critical to the mission of the hospital. The primary purpose of the Production Area, Food Service Assistant II position is to maintain high levels of safety and sanitation in accordance to established regulations, policies and procedures. This position is critical to ensure patient food safety and maintain certification with the Health Department, JCAHO, HCFA and USDA.Job duties of this position include but are not limited to the following:Sterilization and proper storage of pots, pans, utensils, beverage containers, bowls, etc. This is accomplished by a 3 compartment sink pre-ware washing process (removal of excess food debris, pre-rinse and rinse) then sterilization of all wares by use of pot/pan machine. Pots and pans are racked and processed through machine. Monitoring of wash and rinse cycle temperature gauges is essential to ensure sterilization. Pot and pan machine wash and rinse cycles are recorded 3 times per day. In addition heat strips are processed through machine daily to ensure accuracy of gauges. Wares are air dried, checked for cleanliness and then properly stored in designated areas.Correct use of chemicals as trained and in accordance with manufacturer's guidelines.Proper use of equipment.Use of proper mopping techniques.Provides assistance in guidance and direction to Food Service Assistant I in the completion of overall sanitation tasks. Trains new Food Service Assistant I in the sanitation procedures and equipment use/break down. Provides third party reports regarding concerns/issues of Food Service Assistant I performance of all aspects of job role to ensure compliance with safety and sanitation regulations.Assisting cooks by opening cases of food, loading food into hot carts, preparation of raw vegetables and panning-up of pre-portioned foods.Portions and serves patient trays in accordance with menu diet orders and diet manual.Attends in-service training sessions scheduled regarding such topics as safety, sanitation, infection control, etc.This is a full-time position and eligible for the full State benefits package including health insurance and retirement. The normal working hours are Monday - Friday, 9:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. with alternating weekends and holidays as scheduled; however, flexibility is required to meet hospital needs. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies Qualified applicants must exhibit and application clearly reflect work experience that demonstrates the following:Ability to read, understand and follow oral and written instructions as well as keeping some routine records.Ability to preform moderately heavy physical work for extended periods of time.Ability to learn, maintain and adhere to policies and procedures regarding sanitation and safety regulations to include the wearing of slip resistant shoes.Ability to maintain effective professional working relationships with employees and patients in the hospital. Ability to maintain a valid North Carolina Drivers License.Ability to train Food Service Assistant I in proper sanitation, safety and use of equipment and chemicals.Physical requirements will be discussed during the interview process; but include moderate (10 pounds) to heavy (35 pounds plus), lifting, pushing, talking, balancing, hearing, stooping, walking, reaching and pulling are required constantly during work shift. In addition, must be able to stand on cement floors during entire work shift, except lunch and break periods. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements Education and/or experience in preparing and serving food that is directly related to the job and consistent with accepted practices of the trade equivalent to one year of experience in a commercial and/or institutional kitchen.
