Responsibilities

Completion of Exposure Monitoring Plans for multiple naval actives on geographically dispersed naval bases.

Research, plan, coordinate, and conduct industrial hygiene sampling surveys of work operations to collect exposure monitoring data to assess work practices and environmental conditions with assistance from a Senior Industrial Hygienist.

Research, plan, coordinate, and conduct industrial hygiene sampling surveys of work operations involving potentially hazardous environmental conditions, and provides written documentation of work.

Manage equipment calibration, preventive maintenance, and repair program within the Industrial Hygiene Program Office (IHPO).

Provide instructional outlines and provide technical instruction to Industrial Hygiene professionals, technicians, and workplace monitors on the use of new and technically advance Industrial Hygiene equipment.

Gather and analyze data and communicate findings to cognizant Industrial Hygienists.

PM shift position This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be requirement.

This is a non-critical sensitive IT-II position requiring the incumbent to obtain a favorable ANACI (Access National Agency Check with Inquiries) investigation for continued assignment to a non-critical sensitive position.

The incumbent must, as a condition of employment, be immunized on an annual basis against influenza.

Government Information Technology (IT) Systems: Misuse of Government IT Systems is cause for disciplinary action.

Wears personal protective equipment as required by the various requirments of the work spaces.

Qualifications

For GS-6 - SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:

In order to qualify for this position, your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities, to perform successfully the duties of the position such as:

Applying industrial hygiene concepts, principles and practices applicable under the guidance/supervision of Senior INDUSTRIAL HYGIENE Personnel in regards to performance of industrial hygiene exposure monitoring;

Performing mathematics sufficient to perform calculation required to determine concentrations of contaminants from raw instrumental data and to determine average velocity rates and total system flow, (i.e. measure airflow rates, patters, and pressure differential, etc...);

Utilizing the range of personal protective equipment (PPE) necessary for employee protection in hazardous environment; and

Using automated data systems/applications ((i.e. Defense Occupational and Environmental Health Readiness System - Industrial Hygiene (DOEHRS-IH), MS Office Suite software or similar databases), to enter and maintain hygiene survey data, control system data and sampling data.

Assisting with industrial hygiene workplace sampling evaluations and surveys to record all measurements/ sampling data as required to establish historical record of occupational exposure.

* For GS-7 - SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE

Applying industrial hygiene concepts, principles and practices applicable to the design and performance of industrial hygiene exposure monitoring;

Utilizing Occupational Health and Safety Standards, codes and directives pertaining to industrial operations to determine airborne contaminant concentrations and appropriate sampling criteria;

Carrying out appropriate selection processes, theory of operation, calibrations, servicing and maintenance of field survey/laboratory equipment;

Operating industrial hygiene test/monitoring equipment, its calibration and uses in order to determine levels of chemical, physical, and biological contaminants in the workplace and to ascertain the operating parameters of industrial and specialty ventilation systems; and

Conducting complete sampling evaluations of work operations involving potentially hazardous environmental conditions and providing written documentation of work.

GS-06 SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE: Applicants may substitute the following education for the required experience, provided it demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to do the work of the position: One half full year (9 Semester hours) of graduate education directly related to the position.

GS-07 SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE: Applicants may substitute the following education for the required experience, provided it demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to do the work of the position: One full year (18 Semester hours) of graduate education directly related to the position.
