About the Position: This position is located at River second floor with a private office, working at Adult Outpatient Behavioral Health with taking after hour Emergency Department on-calls as needed.

Position is being filled using EHA - Critical Need Health Care Occupations.

Provide a full range of behavioral health clinical services to military beneficiaries within the National Capital Region as a staff clinical psychologist for outpatient and/or inpatient treatment.

Providing individual, family and/or group psychotherapy

Formulating clinical problem lists and treatment plans consistent with professional guidelines and medical treatment facility Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)

Providing crisis intervention

Consulting and conferring with Department of Defense (DoD) consultants and other providers as appropriate

Giving psychological advice on the telephone as appropriate

Completing required paperwork in accordance with relevant SOPs

Conducting assessment and treatment planning in a timely and appropriate manner

Utilizing paraprofessionals after having received appropriate authorizations

Providing tele-psychology evaluations

Conduct clinical research and maintain up-to-date knowledge of specialized professional literature and scientific findings; participation in Independent Review Board (IRB)-approved research protocols is expected and encouraged.

Provide professional training in areas of established competence or expertise. Training may be provided to personnel enrolled in a variety of professional programs sponsored by the medical treatment facility.

Conditions of Employment

This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Tier 3 security investigation or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.

This position requires the incumbent to have tuberculosis testing.

Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.

This position has mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).

This position requires the incumbent to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.

This position may require the incumbent to work on any day or shift, including PMs, nights, weekends, holidays, or on an on call basis, necessary to meet mission requirements.

This position has been designated Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.

This position requires that you obtain and maintain a Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Basic Requirement for Clinical Psychologist:

Degree: Doctoral Degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) directly related to full professional work in clinical psychology.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes providing evidence based treatment for trauma; conducting individual, family, and group therapy; and conducting psychological testing. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

License requirement: A current, active, and unrestricted license as a Psychologist in a state, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a Territory of the United States. (NOTE: You must submit a copy of your license with your application package).


FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
