The VA Loma Linda Healthcare System is seeking Internal Primary Care Health Care Providers (Internal Medicine/Family Medicine Physicians). Recruitment/Relocation Incentive may be authorized to a highly-qualified candidate.

This position is open until all positions have been filled. The first review of application will begin January 23, 2018, and the following reviews with the end of each month.

Responsibilities

The Loma Linda VA Medical Center is seeking a Physician Internal Primary Care for the Ambulatory Care Service.

The staff physician delivers high-quality Primary Care services, utilizing PACT principles. The Primary Care duties include, but are not limited by,

· the evaluation and treatment of various acute and chronic health conditions, illnesses, and injuries;

· the performance of physical examinations;

· the initiation of consultations/referrals to specialty services, as indicated;

· the ordering of diagnostic studies, such as laboratory tests, x-rays, electrocardiograms, etc., in the evaluation and management of acute and chronic conditions;

· the performance of health promotion and disease prevention;

· offering education and counseling to patients and families, regarding the patient's health condition and the recommended diagnostic and therapeutic treatment options, to include medications;

·the performance of preventive counseling;

· effective and timely care coordination;

· completion of medical documentation in accordance with bylaws and rules and regulations of the Medical Staff

·the collaboration with a multidisciplinary team, including nursing, pharmacy, nutrition, and other health professionals to discuss/determine the best treatment plan for patients.

The VA Loma Linda Healthcare System is affiliated with Loma Linda University School of Medicine. Therefore, the applicant, who is eligible to apply for a faculty appointment, will teach and supervise house staff and medical students within the Loma Linda VA Ambulatory Care Center. Of course, one of the missions of the VHA is its dedication to health care education. As such, the Loma Linda VHA Ambulatory Care team strongly promotes and advocates this mission with a robust educational program with its affiliates.

Work Schedule: Includes an 8-hour shift within the hours of 7:30 am to 5:30 pm, Monday-Friday. May also include a Saturday shift from 8:00 am-Noon.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements: Citizenship: Citizen of the United States.

Education: Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are: (1) School of medicine holding regular institutional membership in the Association of American Medical Colleges for the year in which the degree was granted. (2) Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the American Osteopathic Association for the year in which the degree was granted. (3) Schools (including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico), or in the District of Columbia as qualifying for full or unrestricted licensure.

Licensure and Registration: Physician (Except Residents). Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. The physician must maintain current registration in the State of licensure if this is a requirement for continuing active, current licensure. The facility Director may waive this licensure requirement if the physician is to serve in a country other than the United States and the physician has licensure in the country.

Residents: Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia before the second year of VA residency, or meet any licensure, registration or other equivalent requirements established for resident of non-VA hospitals with which the VA facility is affiliated for training purposes. The resident must maintain current registration in the State of licensure if this is a requirement for continuing active, current licensure.

First-Year Residency (Internship). Completed a first-year residency, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which it was completed. For a VA resident, the appropriate Deans Committee and Resident Review board may recommend appointment on the basis of the candidate's acceptability of residency training. Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the Council on Medical Education and Hospitals, American Medical Association, in the list published for the year the residency was completed, or (2) Other residencies or their equivalents which the Professional Standards Board determines to have provided an applicant with appropriate professional training. The Board may determine that the residency requirement has been met if the candidate has completed 1 year of postgraduate education.

English Language Proficiency. Physicians, including residents, appointed to direct patient-care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C 7402(d) and 7407(d).

Preferred Experience: Board Certification in Internal Medicine/Family Medicine strongly preferred.

The full performance level of this vacancy is VM-15.
