Responsibilities

As a Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic you will be responsible for the following duties:

Performs water testing on all water loop systems

Troubleshoots, repairs, modifies, overhauls, tests, calibrates and installs the more complex instruments and equipment for HVAC systems

Traces systems of equipment malfunction and isolates the problem to the particular component or assembly

Troubleshoots, repairs, modifies, tests, calibrates and installs equipment pertaining to the control and operation of medium size screw compressor chillers

Maintains, installs and repairs refrigeration, duct, ventilation, and air conditioning systems, pneumatic control air compressors, and ice machines

Makes visual, audible and mechanical checks of refrigeration cycles

Checks electrical circuits and Direct digital Controls and devices.

Troubleshoot, modify and repair building automation systems such as Metasys controls.

Replaces various cooling units such as compressors, condensers, expansion valves, float and service valves, thermostats, coils and associated drive assemblies, pneumatic air dryers, purge pumps and air filters

Per OPM Qualification System for Trades and Labor Occupations, the applicant's experience, education and training must show enough knowledge, skills and abilities to demonstrate the potential to successfully perform the duties of the position. Under this system, how applicants gained their skill and knowledge or the length of time they have spent in a line of work are not as important as the fact that they have the required ability or potential to do the job. This job has one critical element, called the screen-out element (SOE). Applicants who clearly fail to meet the lowest acceptable requirements in the SOE will be rated ineligible without further review of their application.

Additionally applicants who do not receive an average factor value of at least 2 points for all job elements will be eliminated from further competition.

Examples of qualifying experience include:

Knowledge of and skill in the use of mechanical and electrical tools and equipment typical of the trade in order to service and replace major portions of various cooling and hot water systems

Troubleshoots, repairs, modifies, overhauls, tests, calibrates and installs the more complex instruments and equipment for HVAC systems

Checks electrical circuits and power sources, tightens connections, makes splices, insulates exposed wires

Performs water testing on all water loop systems in order to maintain water quality

Specifically you will be evaluated on the following competencies:

1. Ability to Inspect (SOE)

2. Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc

3. Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment
