Summary
This position is located on the Caribou-Targhee National Forest, Idaho Falls, ID.
This position serves as an assistant providing technical support work in timber sales appraisals and accounting, contract activities, and business management phases of sale administration.

Responsibilities
Duties listed are at the full performance level.
Analyzes timber sale contracts to assure documents comply with appraisal, current direction, procedures, laws, and regulations.
Participates in the oral and sealed bid openings of timber sales. Opens and analyzes sealed bids for compliance with regulations and instructions and for the determination of the high bidder. Returns deposits to unsuccessful bidders and maintains required records. As directed, prepares documents for signature of the successful bidder for the contracting officer.
Prepares and submits proper documents and reports to Contracting Officer for approval. Reviews contract modifications for accuracy and completeness prior to submitting to purchaser and contracting officer for signature.
Provides backup assistance to Resource Specialist and makes decisions as necessary in order to complete work assignments pertaining to timber sale/stewardship contracts and permits.

Qualifications
Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement (or date of referral if an Open Continuous announcement) as defined below. For more information on the qualifications for this position, go to: ****Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
For the GS-5 level:
Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-4 grade level; OR a bachelor's degree or 4 years of successfully completed education above high school; OR combinations of successfully completed post-high school education (in excess of the first 60 semester hours) and specialized experience. The education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.
Examples of specialized experience are:
Performed timber, fire, range, land uses, recreation, minerals, or similar resource clerk work; prepared grazing permits, maintained allotment and permittee files; provided timber sales support by preparing supporting forms/documentation/records, reviewed reports for accurate coding, keeping fee collection records etc.
For the GS-6 level:
Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-5 grade level.
Examples of specialized experience are:
Performed technical review of timber sale packages. Followed established controls to ensure that timber collection revenues/deposits are billed, collected, and deposited to proper accounts. Maintained permit folders, computed fees, and coordinated annual billings and delinquent payments with permit administrators. Applied knowledge of several types of software such as spreadsheets, templates, databases, word processing documents, publishing and graphics applications to generate specific working documents and forms. Audited scale records or tree measurement tally sheets and performed the correction of scale tickets and final corrections to the edit files.
There is no substitution for education at the GS6 level.

BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION AND FINGERPRINT CHECK:
Selection and retention in this position is contingent on a successfully adjudicated FBI National Criminal History Check (fingerprint check) and a background investigation.
