This National Guard position is for an I.T. Specialist (Sys Admin), Position Description Number D1617000and is part of the JFHQ-J6, Madison, WI National Guard with the roles of NICE Cyber Security Defense Analysis.

This position will be assigned to the Cyber Security Branch of Joint Force HQ and this position uses defensive measures and information collected from a variety of sources to identify, analyze, and report events that occur or might occur within the network to protect information, information systems, and networks from threats. As an I.T. Specialist (Sys Admin), GS-2210-12, you will serve as the technical expert and project leader for cyber security information technology (IT) systems administration. As a Cyber Security Analysis you will need to be able to characterize and analyze network traffic to identify anomalous activity and potential threats to the network, perform security reviews and identify security gaps in the security architecture resulting in recommendations for the inclusion in the risk management strategy. The incumbent is responsible for the planning and coordinating the installation, testing, system security configuration and monitoring, operation, troubleshooting and maintenance of all security hardware and software.

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience, education or training that has provided a basic knowledge of data-collected from a variety of cyber defense tools (e.g., IDS alerts, firewalls, network traffic logs) to analyze events that occur within their environments for the purposes of mitigating threats. Experience may have been gained in work such as computer operator or assistant, computer sales representative, program analyst, or other positions that required the use or adaptation of computer programs and systems.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: To qualify for the GS-2210-12 (D1617000) level, applicant must show to have at least 36 months experience, education, or training that approaches techniques and requirements appropriate to an assigned computer applications area or computer specialty area in an organization. Applicant must be able to receive and retain an IAT Level II certification IAW DoDI 8540 within six months of hire. Experience planning the sequence of actions necessary to accomplish the assignment where this entailed coordination with others outside the organizational unit and development of project controls. Experience that required adaptations of guidelines or precedents to meet the needs of the assignment. Experience preparing documentation on cost/benefit studies where is involved summarizing the material and organizing it in a logical fashion. Experience in managing the function of the work to be performed. Experience which includes leading, directing and assigning work of personnel.
