This position serves as a Survey Technician in the Branch of Cadastral Survey. The salary range given above includes base pay and locality pay, you will also receive a 3.74% cost of living allowance for Anchorage. This allowance is subject to annual review, adjustment and gradual decrease.
This is a full-time temporary position not-to-exceed 1039 hours (6 months), excluding overtime in a service year. The service year is the calendar
year that begins on the date of the employee's initial appointment in the agency. These appointments may be rehired from year to year. May be
rehired without further competition based on work needs, funding, or any other condition of employment.
The BLM manages more land - 245 million surface acres - than any other Federal agency. As the SURVEY TECHNICIAN, you will:
Record surveying data, including corner evidence, survey measurement data, and original corner descriptions
Perform mathematical computations required to traverse using conventional survey methods [i.e., total stations, thodolites, electronic distance measuring instruments,(EDMI), etc.
Transport equipment, carry heavy loads, clear trees and brush, dig holes, and hike in rugged terrain in remote and/or isolated locations,
Operate survey equipment such as theodolites, EDMI, electronic total stations, and Global Positioning System (GPS) receivers and processors to assist in the performance of cadastral surveys; and
Work around aircraft, all-terrain vehicles, motor vehicles, and watercraft.

To be qualified as a GS-04, you must have:
A. Experience: At least six (6) months of general experience and six (6) months of specialized experience. General experience must demonstrate the ability to perform the duties of a Surveying Technician. Specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-03 level in the Federal service. Examples of specialized experience include work such as: work as an engineering technician, soil conservation technician, construction inspector, or work assisting professional land surveyors in the measurement or determination of distances, elevations, areas, angles, land boundaries, and/or other features of the Earth's surface, and/or assisting land surveyors in setting monuments. OR
B. Education: Successful completion of two (2) years of study postsecondary education (above high school) which includes at least 12 semester hours of courses in any combination of the following courses: surveying, engineering, industrial technology, construction, physics, drafting, forestry, geography, navigation, cartography, physical science, or mathematics. OR
C. Combination of Experience and Education: An equivalent combination of general experience and education, as described above.GS-05:
To qualify for this position at the GS-05 level, you must have:
A. Experience: At least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-04 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience examples include work such as: work as an engineering technician, soil conservation technician, construction inspector, or work assisting professional land surveyors in the measurement or determination of distances, elevations, areas, angles, land boundaries, and/or other features of the Earth's surface, and/or assisting land surveyors in setting monuments, and/or serve as a crew member and occasionally crew lead for specific projects. OR
B. Education: Successful completion successfully completed a full four (4) year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree (a) with major study in an appropriate field of surveying, engineering, construction, or industrial technology, or (b) that included at least 24 semester hours in any combination of the following courses: surveying, engineering, industrial technology, construction, physics, drafting, forestry, geography, navigation, cartography, physical science, or mathematics. OR
C. Combination of Experience and Education: An equivalent combination of general experience and education, as described above.

You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.
