The Housekeeping Aid Leader works alongside other members of the Housekeeping team assigned to Environmental Management Service, VA Puget Sound Health Care System, American Lake (Tacoma) division. The position is responsible to the Housekeeping Aid Supervisor and sets the pace for all members of his or her team; provides guidance to team members and instructs them in use of equipment. The Housekeeping Aid Leader reports any issues to the Housekeeping Aid Supervisor and ensures the supervisors directives are carried out.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 3:30pm-12midnight

Duties include but are not limited to the following:

Leads team members in housekeeping duties such as sweeping, dusting, damp mopping, scrubbing, stripping and refinishing, cleaning light fixtures, windows, furniture, restrooms, etc.

Ensures team members utilize cleaning agents safely to prevent injury as well as damage to floors, furniture, walls and fixtures.

Coordinates the work of team to clean assigned area efficiently and simultaneously.

Ensures sanitation methods are observed

Issues cleaning supplies

Provides direction on proper use of supplies and equipment.

Assists in On-the-job training of other Housekeeping employees.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:

Handles object weighing 45 pounds or more; Occasionally carries objects weighing 45 pounds or greater for considerable distances; Stands and walks for long periods; Stoops, bends and lifts frequently; Repeated bending ( 6 hours); Pushing (3.5 hours); Reaching above shoulder; Use of fingers; Both hands required; Climbing, use of legs and arms; Ability to distinguish basic colors

Working conditions:

Occasionally works on uneven or slippery surfaces; Occasionally works around noisy equipment; Occasionally works on ladders; Frequently works around dirt and dampness; Exposed to various solvents and chemicals; work is both indoors and outside; may be exposed to both cold and hot temperatures as well as inclement weather.

Receiving Service Credit or Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. VA may offer newly-appointed Federal employee's credit for their job-related non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. Such credit must be requested and approved prior to the appointment date and is not guaranteed.
