Summary
The Supervisory Medical Support Assistant plans and directs programs at designated worksite. Is delegated full supervisory responsibility. Duties include, but may not be limited to: assigning and evaluating the work of subordinate staff; resolving complex problems to ensure that patient services are met; evaluating new products, equipment, identifying educational and training needs; making final decisions on selections; evaluating performance; and taking disciplinary action when necessary.

Responsibilities
The Supervisory MSA reports to the HAS Supervisory Medical Administrative Specialist. Work is assigned by the HAS Team Chief and/or HAS Leadership. The Supervisory MSA plans and completes advanced level tasks based on observance of protocols and accepted clinical practices while exercising full supervisory responsibility over subordinate staff. The Supervisory MSA works in collaboration with clinical professionals, higher level administrators, and managers. The Supervisory MSA handles directly or delegates responsibility for resolution of problems or unusual situations and makes decisions on appropriate action to be taken.
Carries out a full range of administrative and supervisory duties, to include assignment of work, performance evaluations, selection of staff, and recommendations for awards and advancements. Organizes work, sets priorities, and delegates tasks and responsibilities in order to meet deadlines. Communicates skillfully with individuals in order to obtain the desired outcome, while ensuring compliance with established policies and regulations. Manages staffing requirements, manages priorities, and coordinates work in order to complete duties in an accurate and timely manner.
Demonstrates ability to collaborate, communicate, set priorities, and organize work in order to meet deadlines and to ensure compliance with established processes, policies, and regulations.
Demonstrates advanced knowledge of managing call center operations and authoritatively utilizes various reference sources. Makes decisions and empowers others to collaborate in order to resolve problems within a complex systems environment. Applies authoritative knowledge of policies and procedures associated with operational activities that affect patient flow, patient care, and the revenue process.
Demonstrates advanced knowledge of medical terminology due to the technical nature of language utilized by clinicians in order to be able to communicate effectively with both professional and non-professional employees in a variety of occupations and at various levels of responsibility.
Provides the customer with consistent information according to established policies and procedures. Handles conflict and problems in dealing with the customer constructively and appropriately.

Qualifications
Basic Requirements

* Experience
. Six months experience of clerical, office or other work that indicates the ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position; or
Education.
One year above high school; or
Experience/Education Combination.
Equivalent combination of experience and education.
English Language Proficiency
. MSAs must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with VA Handbook 5005.
Grade Determination:
One year of specialized experience equivalent to a GS-7 level Lead Medical Support Assistant. Examples of specialized experience include, but are not limited to: assigning and evaluating work, evaluating performance, providing staff development and training, managing a clinic, and managing fiscal matters and budget needs.
In addition to these basic requirements candidates must demonstrate the following knowledge, skills and abilities:
1 -Ability to lead personnel in order to effectively move complex processes and diverse people to achievement of defined goals.
2 - Ability to direct, interpret and implement current and new procedures, resolve procedural problems, observe results and conduct studies necessary to improve the quality and quantity of the end product.
3 - Knowledge and ability to gather, assemble and analyze data, recognize problems, propose solutions and prepare written and oral responses.
4 - Skill and experience in performing personnel issues such as hiring, awards, disciplinary actions, etc.).
5. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally (educating, motivating, persuading, etc.) and in writing (policies, studies, reports, etc.) with individuals of diverse backgrounds and varying levels or understanding regarding information being presented.
6. Knowledge and experience of the national scheduling directive.

Physical Requirements:
Light lifting, under 15 pounds; light carrying, under 15 pounds; use of fingers; both hands required; near vision correctable at 13 to 16 to Jaeger 1 to 4; far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other; hearing (aid permitted), mental and emotional stability.
