Summary

This is an Air Reserve Technician Enlisted position.

Air Reserve Technicians are part of the regular civil service and enjoy all the benefits granted to Federal employees in the competitive civil service. In addition, ARTs are required to maintain active membership in an Air Force Reserve unit so long as they occupy Air Reserve Technician positions. As members of reserve units, ARTs receive on average one weekend of military training per month. In addition, they are eligible for 15 days active duty tour each year for which military leave is granted with full civilian pay. Air Reserve units and members are subject to immediate call to active duty in mobilization to meet a national emergency.

Responsibilities

The primary purpose of this Air Reserve Technician (ART) Enlisted position is to serve as section supervisor over employees engaged in condition evaluation, test , repair, modification, and overhaul of aircraft fuel systems assemblies, components, and parts, to include repair of integral fuel tanks. Additionally, trains reservists in the duties and responsibilities set forth herein.

Incumbent of this position will perform the following duties:

Receive work document(s) or oral instructions regarding problems with aircraft fuel systems.

Troubleshoot integral fuel tanks, using leak path analysis and other test procedures such as pressure checks, vacuum checks, dye injection checks, helium and argon gas checks, etc., to determine the source of fuel leaks.

Troubleshoot fuel cells to determine location of leaks.

Accomplish modifications and prepare components for storage or shipment.

Uses a variety of common hand tools, combustible and toxic gas indicators.

Ensures tool control procedures are followed.

Travel Required

Occasional travel - Incumbent may be required to fly in a military and/or commercial aircraft to perform temporary/permanent duty assignments.

Qualifications

A specific length of experience or training is not required. However, you must have had experience and/or training (military or civilian, paid or unpaid) of sufficient scope and quality to be able to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. You must show that you have the experience as identified in the Job Elements listed below as they relate to the position for which you are applying. Element E - Ability to use test equipment and measuring instruments. Element F - Troubleshooting of Aircraft Pneudraulic Systems. Element G - Ability to work from instructions, specifications, blueprints, personal inspections, etc.

Additional information

Individuals on active duty may apply 120 days before separation date and should indicate in their application their military separation date.
