The area of consideration for this vacancy announcement is for U.S. Citizens and Non-Citizens within the Local Commuting Area of Fort Drum, NY. This includes the counties of: St. Lawrence, Oswego, Jefferson, and Lewis. This position is located within the Child, Youth, & School Services Division.

Fort Drum, home of the 10th Mountain Division (LI), is located in northern New York's picturesque North Country, one of the most historically unique and geographically beautiful areas of the United States, offering many outdoor recreational opportunities from hunting and fishing to winter sports of all types. Fort Drum is approximately 30 miles south of the Canadian border, 85 miles north of Syracuse, and 350 miles north of New York City. It is located with the Great Lakes to the west, the Adirondack Mountains to the east, and the St. Lawrence River and Thousand Islands in between.

Serves as a Ballet, Jazz, Hip Hop, and/or Tap Dance Instructor for Child, Youth, and School Services participants

Provides individual and/or group lessons to participants

Offers less structured activities for parents/children

Coordinates work schedules with Instructional Program Specialist

Tracks participant's accomplishments, long and short term goals, effort, and evaluations as appropriate for age and type of instruction

Implements changes and adjustments to instructional program and plans to meet unusual situations associated with the needs of individual children and youth

A one year probationary period may be required

Satisfactorily complete an employment verification (E-Verify) check

Successful completion of prescribed training (transition and/or annual) and demonstrated on the job competency is required

Qualified candidates will possess all of the following:

a high school diploma or equivalent (must be provided to the Personnel Office PRIOR to employment), AND

ability to communicate in English (both written and verbal), AND

competency in Ballet, Jazz, Hip Hop, or Tap Dance Instruction, AND

must be at least 18 years of age at the time of appointment (EMPLOYMENT ESTIMATED TO BEGIN: 4/5/2018), AND

the physical ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs and walk, bend, stoop and stand on a routine basis.

HIGHLY PREFERRED are those candidates that possess both the minimum qualifications above and: a Professional Certificate or /Credential in Ballet, Jazz, Hip Hop, or Tap Dance Instruction, OR

an Associates Degree (or higher) with 15 semester hours of college credit in Ballet, Jazz, Hip Hop, or Tap Dance Instruction, OR

Six (6) months of Ballet, Jazz, Hip Hop, or Tap Dance Instruction experience.

Additional information

Salary depends on actual hours worked. Hourly rate for leave and pay will be $16.79 to $17.75 per hour.

Additional selections may be made from this vacancy announcement for up to 90 days after the closing date.

Payment Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs is NOT authorized, based on a determination that a PCS move is NOT in the Government's interest.
