The Nurse Practitioner is located here at the Northern Arizona VA Health Care System (NAVAHCS) in Prescott, Arizona in the Geriatrics and Extended Care Service Line (GEC). S/He will report directly to the Geriatrics and Extended Care Manager.
The function of the Nurse Practitioner is to provide, direct, and supervise the delivery of quality nursing care to a culturally diverse veteran population. Will possess the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively apply all aspects of the nursing process within a collaborative, interdisciplinary practice setting. This broad based clinical knowledge enables the Nurse Practitioner to effectively implement health promotion and prevention interventions, manage acute and chronic illness states, assist veterans in the attainment of optimal levels of functioning through rehabilitation and provide supportive measures for the dying patient and their significant others.
S/He will have the knowledge and skills necessary to:
Communicate and interact appropriately and courteously with internal and external customers.
Maintain confidentiality of patient/employee information electronically, verbally, and written.
Work and function within a safe manner including infection control and operation of equipment.
Integrate and apply pertinent aspects of the Medical Center performance improvement program into his/her professional practice.
Utilize nursing research and literature in daily practice.
Demonstrates excellent knowledge base regarding moderate sedation as well as sterile and aseptic technique.
We serve, and provide out-patient and direct care to veterans of United States of America of adult age 18-115 years in the home setting. Our work includes extensive interaction with patients, staff, physicians, family members, and visitors whom are all involved in patients care. Moving equipment and supplies, pushing, pulling, lifting, bending, stooping, walking and standing for extended periods of time, and possible exposure to body fluid is involved with this position.

Current, full, active and unrestriced registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth
A nurse practitioner must be licensed or otherwise recognized as a nurse practitioner in a State, possess a master's degree from a program accredited by the NLNAC or CCNE, and maintain full and current certification as a nurse practitioner from the American Nurses Association or another nationally recognized certifying body. [The certification must be in the specialty to which the individual is being appointed or selected.]
Graduation from School of Nursing:
The National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC). The NLNAC accredits all levels of nursing programs. Additional information may be obtained from the NLNAC web site; OR
The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), an accrediting arm of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN). The CCNE accredits bachelors and masters degree programs. Additional information may be obtained from the CCNE web site.
