Materials Handler (WG-03)opens packages and boxes, checking the material against the documentation. Maintains records of warehouse transactions, including incoming and outgoing shipments and stock on hand.
Reviews the stock level of regularly stocked items; making recommendations to supervisor. A Materials Handler (WG-04) maintains stock, issues to firefighters, and maintains records of fire warehoused supplies and tools.
Assists with purchasing fire supplies and tools.
A Materials Handler (WG-05)issues fire equipment and fire supplies to personnel, utilizing predetermined guidelines and provides tracking, inventory, and receipt of property. Maintains stock, issues to firefighters, and maintains records showing inventories of all fire warehoused supplies and tools. Operates forklift in loading, unloading and moving stock.

These positions do not have promotional potential. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Work requires standing, stooping, bending and working in tiring and uncomforable positions. May be required to work at a rapid pace for long periods of time. Frequently lifts and carries supplies, equipment and printed materials up to 44 pounds.
Work is generally performed on concrete or a hard surface floor. BLM REQUIRES MANDATORY DRUG TESTING WITH FAVORABLE RESULTS PRIOR TO REPORTING FOR WORK. The drug test will be provided at Government direction and expense.
Once hired, employees are also subject to random drug testing during employment. This is in accordance with Executive Order 12564 and under the Departments Drug Free Workplace Program.
(OPM) Job Qualifications System for Trades and Labor Occupations will be used in determining your qualifications.
There is no specific length of training or experience required; however, you must be able to demonstrate through experience shown in your resume. To qualify for a WG-03: Experience working in a warehouse, or similar setting, receiving packages, documenting accuracy of received items against manifest as well as the condition of items. To qualify for a WG-04: Experience in the operation (day to day activity) of a cache or warehouse in order to procure, issue, control, store and judge the physical condition of a wide variety of equipment and supplies.
Ability to input inventory data using warehouse software program. To qualify for a WG-05: Experience in the operation of a wildland fire cache or warehouse in order to procure, issue, control, store and judge the physical condition of a wide variety of fire suppression and fire safety items within the wildland fire community as a warehouse worker. You must meet all qualification requirements by the early consideration/closing date of the announcement.
