Summary

MAJOR DUTIES:

Serves as a working supervisor over the kitchen work area exercising full supervisory responsibility over work operations. The occupation and non-supervisory grade level which best reflects the nature of the overall work operation supervised is Cook, NA-7404-06.

PLANNING:

Plans use of workers, equipment, facilities, and materials on a week-to-week or month-to-month basis. Establishes deadlines, priorities, work sequences, and plans work assignments based on general work schedules, methods and policies set by supervisors. Participates with superiors in the initial planning of current and future work schedules, budget requests, staffing needs and estimates.

WORK DIRECTION:

Assigns tasks to subordinates. Explains work requirements, methods and procedures, instruct subordinates in new procedures. Investigates and determines causes for work related problems such as excessive costs or low productivity. Implements corrective actions to resolve work problems; and recommends solutions to staffing problems. Inspects completed work for quality and production.

ADMINISTRATION:

Plans and establishes overall leave schedule. Determines training needs. Responsible for training new employees. Sets performance standards and makes formal appraisals of subordinate work performance. Initiates recommendations for promotion or reassignment of subordinates. Recommends disciplinary actions, and selects the most suitable applicants for vacancies. Investigates grievances and complaints, resolves them informally and notifies supervisors of those of a serious nature. Ensures safety and sanitation procedures and practices are observed. Maintains work reports and records.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Experience and training that provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to perform the duties of this position consistent with accepted practices of the trade. Ability to use and maintain appropriate tools and equipment. Ability to read, understand, and apply instruction and other materials related to the job. Demonstrated ability to lead or supervise.

Highly qualified criteria are those who has a minimun of 2 years experience cooking large quantities at a cafeteria/dining facility. Must be able to cook large quantities by recipe, and able to convert and adjust IAW USDA standards. Must have or be able to obtain Serv-Safe Certification within the first six months of employment. Has computer knowledge and experience running a cash register.

Highly Qualified Criteria will be referred first.
