This position will serve as a Social Scientist within the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), Office of Public Health Scientific Services (OPHSS), National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS), Division of Health Care Statistics (DHCS), Long Term Care Statistics Branch (LTCSB).

As a Social Scientist you will: Coordinate, and conduct research activities in the areas of long-term care.
Research results will contribute to the knowledge and understanding of public health and the delivery of health care services and will contribute to the solution of public health problems in the United States.
Develop research plans that will address critical problems and analytic issues of interest to health services researchers and policymakers.
Present results to the scientific community at professional meetings and conferences.
Establish and maintains liaison with researchers and program officials throughout the agency and in other agencies, private research foundations, professional associations, and the health care community involved in long- term care and related research.
Occasional travel - You may be expected to travel for this position up to 5% domestically.

Basic Qualification Requirement:
Applicants must have successfully completed a full four year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in behavior or social science; or related discipline appropriate to this position.
Have a combination of education and experience that provided knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.
Have four (4) years of appropriate experience that demonstrated acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavior or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.
Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the position which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties of the position to applying statistical methodologies, theories, principles, and methods to carry out a variety of data collection and analytical activities relative to scientific data as part of long term health care research studies.
Education completed in colleges or universities outside the United States may be used to meet the education requirements. You must provide acceptable documentation that the foreign education is comparable to that received in an accredited educational institution in the United States.
