By joining Defense Logistics Agency Distribution you will be a part of the team that is the leading provider of global distribution support to America's military. Whether you work at the DLA Distribution Headquarters in New Cumberland, Pa. or at one of our 24 distribution centers around the globe, your work will ensure that DLA Distribution offers the right solution, on time, every time through a broad range of services to include storage, distribution, customized kits, specialized packaging and world-wide transportation support. DLA Distribution makes a difference every day by providing effective, efficient and best value support to our customers which include the United States Army, Marine Corps, Navy and Air Force as well as other government agencies.

DUTIES: As a Materials Examiner and Identifier (FLO), you will be responsible for the following duties:

Examines, identifies and verifies a variety of materials, complete equipment items, technical components, parts, and commodities.

Receives, checks, verifies, sorts and classifies materials and equipment by stock number, size, classification and condition.

Uses technical manuals to identify and verify materials.

Determines the correct condition code, classification, repairability or non-repairability of items and estimates economic feasibility or cost of repair.

Initiates records to document receiving and processing discrepancies and material defects found during phases of examination.

Operates forklifts with a capacity of lifting loads weighing up to 15,000 lbs and related materials handling equipment to deliver, relocate, up-load, off-load, and move materials and equipment.

Physical Effort: Work is performed on hard surface and in areas that require prolonged standing, stooping, bending, lifting, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts and carries items weighing 50 pounds. Obtains assistance from others or uses material handling equipment for heavier items. The work often involves pushing and pulling heavy material along conveyor lines.

Working Conditions: Work is performed within a warehouse environment and outside in a containment area on a year round basis. Work is usually performed in areas that are hot, cold, or damp. Employee may be subject to cuts, bruises, abrasions, and scrapes in moving or handling materials and are subject to hazards involved in working in proximity to moving equipment. Protective equipment is provided.

To qualify for a Materials Examiner and Identifier (FLO), your qualifications must include:

Applicants will be rated in accordance with the Office of Personnel Management Qualification Standard for Trades and Labor Occupations. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties at the level for which you are applying. Emphasis is placed on how you gained the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time, and the required ability or potential to perform the job. Applicants who do not meet the screen-out element (SOE) will be eliminated from further competition.

Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency (knowledge, skills and abilities) in the following areas:

Ability to do the work of a Materials Examiner & Identifier (FLO) without more than normal supervision (SOE)

Technical Practices

Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (other than blueprints)
