These positions are full time temporary positions not-to-exceed 1039 regular hours (about 6 months) in a service year. Positions may be terminated sooner or extended depending on management needs. Individuals selected under this vacancy announcement are eligible for rehire in subsequent service years.
The typical seasonal entry-on-duty period for is June through October, but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. Anticipated Entry on Duty: May, 2018.
Travel, transportation, and relocation expenses will not be paid. All travel, transportation, and relocation expenses associated with reporting for duty in this position will be the sole responsibility of the selected employee.

Masonry work primarily dry stone, in the construction, stabilization and maintenance to historic and non-historic structures, and on the park trail system. Incumbent uses knowledge of the techniques and procedures involved in laying brick, block and stone in the construction or repair of such items as walkways. Utilizes a variety of tools associated with the mason trade: single and double jacks, rock bars, line levels, string lines, tape measures, rock drills and related attachments, chisels, etc. The incumbent works with a great deal of independence once a work leader or supervisor has given direction. Incumbent works along with volunteer crews in the performance of trail work. Carpentry work performed primarily using heavy log and rough-sawn lumber on trails structures such as log checks, multi-use bridges, hitch rails, etc. Incumbent uses chain saws for cutting or limbing trees.

This position requires that you operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties. A valid State driver's license is required.
As a condition of employment, you will be required to submit a completed GSA Form 3607, Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record. You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that discloses all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you.
If you are tentatively selected for employment in this position, you will be required to complete GSA Form 3607 and submit the above State issued documents. Your employment, after your tentative selection, will be contingent upon receipt of these documents in a timely manner and that those documents establish, to the satisfaction of the selecting official, that you possess a valid driver's license.
Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided.
You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work.

This position provides for rehire eligibility on the conditions that the selectee(s) serve at least 31 consecutive calendar days and receive a fully successful (or better) final performance evaluation. Have the ability to do the work of a Maintenance Worker (Trails) without more than normal supervision. (Screen out) Work experience includes the following tasks:
WG 5 level: maintenance worker tasks on a trail crew or group responsible for carrying out work on trails. Constructed rock walls, water bars, and retainer bars. Use chainsaws to cut wood or limb trees. Used a tools used in the trail maintenance trade such as: rock bars,double jack, 12 pound ball peen hammer, single jack, axe brushing shears picks and rakes. Used a chainsaw in felling timber, cutting, bucking, and limbing trees.
WG 7 level: repairing trail tread and drainage structures, constructing rock walls, turnpiking, cribbing, and foot bridges, removing windfalls, felling trees, and utilizing block, tackle, and winches for moving and placing heavy objects. Construction and maintenance of rock and wood water bars, retaining walls and cribbing, and other trail structures. Laying out and constructing new trail in rocky, mountainous terrain, and in performing landscape restoration of abandoned trails.

Physical Demands: The work performed requires the exertion of moderate to very heavy physical effort.The work involves lifting and moving objects of 50 pounds, and in some cases, carrying 80-100 pounds (or more) with assistance.Work requires hiking in a mountainous area (elevations above 8,000 feet) over a rough and uneven terrain with backpack/tools up to several miles in a day.
Working Conditions: Outside work is usually performed under all kinds of weather conditions. Indoor work is often accomplished in office buildings or in well lighted, heated, and ventilated areas. Frequently exposed to weather and temperature extremes, drafts, noise, dust and dirt. Work requires employee to follow proper safety procedures and use standard safety equipment such as gloves, ear protectors, safety glasses, and steel toe shoes to avoid possible hazards in the work area.
