Responsibilities

Incumbent will operate various types of motorized gasoline and diesel-fueled maintenance and construction equipment including, cranes, motor graders, backhoes, articulated loaders, bulldozers, rollers, forklifts, paint stripers, etc. Other equipment included but not limited to, dump trucks, flatbeds, sewage pumper trucks and semi-tractors, skid steer loaders, pavement marking equipment, crack seal equipment, compaction equipment and light duty trucks, etc. Incumbent will operate twin engine motor boats up to 32' push boats and barges to transport people, supplies, materials and equipment to developed areas on the lake. Directs and assists in loading and unloading cargo and checks to see that loads are properly distributed, secured and within maximum weight and height capacity, will also service equipment vehicles and boats, preventive maintenance, making minor repairs and adjustments. May serve as acting roads and trails foreman in absence of the supervisor.

Area Information: Page, Arizona (Wahweap) is located on the Arizona-Utah border, 135 miles north of Flagstaff, Arizona, the nearest larger community. Wahweap Sub-District is located seven miles from Page. Page looks out on beautiful Lake Powell which offers boating, associated water sports recreation and fishing. The surrounding land of the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area offers beautiful red rock country for hiking and backcountry recreational activity. Page is centrally located to many other National Parks, such as the Grand Canyon, Zion, Arches and Canyonlands to name a few. Page offers normal community amenities such as shopping, medical and dental facilities, schools K-12 and college courses available through local Coconino Community College. The area enjoys typical high desert climate with temperatures ranging from 100 in summer to mid-teens in winter with low humidity and sunshine most days of the year. Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.

Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.

You will be required to submit to a drug test and receive a negative drug test result prior to appointment. In addition, this position is subject to random testing for illegal drug use.

You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required. You will be required to submit a Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record. You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that disclose all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you.

You must possess and maintain a current Class A Commercial Driver's License with no Air Brake Restriction.

Within six months of entrance on duty you must obtain Hazardous Materials and Tanker endorsements.

You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided.

If you are a new employee or supervisor in the Federal government, you will be required to complete a one-year probationary period.

Government Charge Card: You may be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority.

Applicants must be at least (1)18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and: (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or (c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education; or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program.

Must be able to obtain DOIMOCC certification for the operation of government-owned watercraft.

To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors:

Class A CDL (SCREEN OUT)

Ability to interpret instructions, specifications, etc. (related to mobile equipment operation).

Ability to Operate Safely (Non Motor Vehicles)

Reliability and Dependability as an Engineering Equipment Operator.

Additional information

Physical Demands: Required to operate equipment for ten-hour periods, climbing in and out of different machines, pushing and pulling levers continuously while machine is in operation, may lift such items as opening and closing tail gate on 15 yard dump truck.

Working Conditions: Work is performed both outside and inside, exposed to hot and humid/dry weather and/or extremely cold weather. Icy roads, oils and other items such as loose gravel and rocks create hazardous conditions, exposure to noise, vibration, dust, dirt and fumes.Operators are exposed to injury due to the possibility of equipment overturning. Works in and around open bodies of water (e.g. lake, river, sewer lagoons) and must be able to swim with proper flotation devices. Personal protective equipment is available and required when warranted, Is required to fly in light aircraft to perform duties as assigned Uplake.
