This position is located in the Audiology Clinic of the New Jersey Health Care System of the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Service.

Responsibilities
The duties and responsibilities are discharged throughout the medical center including all clinical and patient care areas involved with the service. The incumbent is a staff audiologist and is an independent practitioner. The staff audiologist at this level conducts a full range of audiological assessments to determine the type and degree of hearing loss, determines the patient's need for amplification, predicts and measures the effectiveness of amplification, determines need for and type of aural rehabilitation and counseling of the hearing impaired veterans with hearing loss and their families.
Incumbent provides a full range of audiology evaluation, assessment, and treatment services to a wide range of veterans.
Work Schedule: Part time, 20 hours per week, 7:30am to 4:00pm

Qualifications
Basic Requirements
:
* United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
* Education. Master's degree or its equivalent in audiology or hearing science from an accredited college or university is required. Accredited means a college or university accredited by a regional accreditation organization and an audiology program recognized by the Accreditation Commission for Audiology Education (ACAE) and/or the Council on Academic Accreditation of the American Speech-Language- Hearing Association (ASHA).
* License/Registration/Certification. Audiologists at GS-12 and above must hold a full, current and unrestricted state license in State, Territory, Commonwealth, or the District of Columbia.
* Loss of Credential. An employee in this occupation who fails to obtain licensure/certification/ registration within the required time frame, or who fails to maintain the required licensure/certification/registration must be removed from the occupation, which may also result in termination of employment.
Preferred Experience:
Staff audiologists must demonstrate professional knowledge of, and skills in applying, a wide range of theories, principles, and methodologies of the practice of audiology to a wide range of populations.
Grade Determinations
:
GS-12
: In addition to the requirements at the GS-11 level, completion of 1 year of professional experience comparable to the next lower level and possession of a full, current and unrestricted license to practice audiology. Audiologists assigned to this position must fully demonstrate the following KSAOs:
Ability to develop coherent treatment strategies
Knowledge of clinical services, and the ability to perform them independently
Ability to conduct assessments and provide treatment interventions
Ability to provide consultation to other health care professionals
Knowledge of contemporary audiology practice
Ability to perform functions associated with contemporary audiology scope of practice.

Physical Requirements:
All individuals selected for positions with established physical/mental requirements must satisfactorily pass a physical examination prior to entry on duty into the position. Other physical requirements may include the following:
1. Standing, walking, squatting, bending, and sitting, and changing from one position to the other frequently throughout the day.
2. Sitting at a desk and using upper extremities to reach, grasp and place papers, charts and binders.
3. Pushing and rolling equipment such as walkers, wheelchairs and supply carts.
