Summary

The mission of the Directorate of Cadet Activities (DCA) is to significantly enhance the development of the United States Corps of Cadets militarily, physically, academically, moral-ethically, spiritually, and socially by providing organized, comprehensive and diverse programs and facilities, which provide for entertainment, extracurricular, recreational, cultural and social activities.

Located in the scenic Hudson River valley, only 50 miles from New York City, the U.S. Military Academy at West Point is a four-year academic institution, a nationally-renowned historic site, and the oldest continuously occupied military post in America. West Point's 3,000 civilian employees have access to Eisenhower Hall Theater, the Hudson Valley's premier performing arts center, and recreational facilities such as an 18-hole Golf Course and Ski Slope.

Responsibilities

Exercising delegated authority over a segment of the culinary department and oversight over the kitchen staff to include work scheduling, making food production assignments, and dealing with conflicts.

Preparing and cooking food and knowing all style of cooking performed in a kitchen.

Ensuring the food is prepared to quality standards and that staff are mindful of the cost standards associated with the food preparation.

Assisting the executive chef with menu planning, inventory, managing of supplies and labor resources.

Offering suggestions or creative ideas that improve upon the kitchen's overall quality and financial performance.

4. Must obtain obtain (within first six months of employment) and maintain a Food Protection Manager Certification acquired through an American National Standards Institute(ANSI) accredited agency is required (i.e., ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification Program).

Qualifications

Culinary work experience and education that demonstrated the obtainment of skills necessary to function as a sous chef in a professional kitchen. Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing, be able to work long and demanding hours. Must be a strong leader and team player, and have the ability to take instructions from the executive chef and carry out those instructions to the lowest levels of staffing. Must be able to mediate staff conflicts especially when stress mounts and tempers rise.

The experience or education/certification must be reflected on your resume and supporting documentation such as transcripts, degrees, diplomas, certifications, etc. must be uploaded at the time of application to be considered eligible for this position.
