SUMMARY\rIHC is seeking individuals to be included for Temporary Assignments and On Call Pool. Work is performed in an office environment, involves contact with patients and the public. Performs dental measures designed to preserve teeth and prevent the spread of oral disease by performing the \rFollowing duties.\r\rESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Include the following; other duties may be assigned.\r\r\r Greet and seat patients, makes them feel at ease in the dental environment.\r Prophylaxis and scaling of patient’s teeth to remove supragingival and sub gingival deposits of calculus.\r Sub gingival curettage and root planning for treatment of periodontal disease.\r Topical application of fluoride gels routinely for all patients under the age of 18. Application for adults with high\r\rcarries rate, de calcified areas, or root sensitivity.\r\r Polishing of patient’s teeth and with prophy cup and brush to remove stain and plaque.\r Flossing of patient’s teeth and instruction in proper use of dental floss.\r Cleans calcareous deposits, accretions, and stains from teeth and beneath margins of gums.\r Feels lymph nodes under patient’s chin to detect swelling or tenderness that could indicate presence of oral cancer.\r Feels and visually examines gums for sores and signs of disease.\r\r10. Exposes and develops x-ray film.\r11. Charts oral conditions including periodontal probing of pockets and depths where indicated. Using periodontal evaluation forms.\r12. Examines gums to locate periodontal recessed gums and signs.\r13. Performing expanded functions to the extent allowed by law, (i.e. administrating local anesthetics and nitrous oxide under a dentist’s supervision). \r14. Provides fissure sealants where designated by dentist’s orders.\r15. Charts conditions of decay and disease for diagnosis and treatment by dentist.\r16. Provides chair side instruction in oral hygiene procedures, periodontal disease, nutrition and oral disease prevention. Emphasizes the use of fluorides, water fluoridation and sealants.\r17. Cleans, maintains and sterilizes all instruments and sharpens scaling instruments.\r18. Documents treatment rendered in patient chart, checks health history, paperwork, super bill and returns chart to the front office.\r19. Maintains machines, equipments and supplies inventory.\r20. Maintains hygiene operatory, clean suction with disinfectant solution, cleans trap, cavitron, chair and replenish room supplies.\r21. Assists other staff with weekly shutdown, monthly reports, in service and department educational development activities.\r22. Provides clinical services and health education to improve and maintain oral health of school children.\r23. Conducts dental health clinics for community groups to augment services for dentist.\r24. Assist periodontist in developing and implementing complete periodontal program and therapy for clinic patients.\r25. Maintains patient’s confidentiality at all time.\r26. Performs other related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE\rGraduate of an accredited dental hygiene school or program and a minimum or 1 year experience beyond hygiene school. Competence in operation of standard dental equipment; cavitron, prophyjet, piezon, x-ray, radiograph, processor, panelipse, dental chair and unit, sterilizers, hand scalers, and curettes. Knowledge of OSHA Blood-borne Pathogen Standard and adhere to safety rules and professional standards.\rCUSTOMER RELATIONS\r\r Responds promptly and with caring actions to patients and employees. Acknowledge psychosocial, spiritual and cultural beliefs and honor these beliefs.\r Maintain professional working relationships with all levels of staff, clients and the public.\r Be part of a team and cooperate in accomplishing department/organizational goals and objectives.\r \r Displays knowledge of normal signs of human development and ability to assess and provide age appropriate care\r \r \r\rQUALITY MANAGEMENT\r\r Contribute to the success of the organization by participating in quality improvement activities.\r\r\rSAFETY\r\r Maintain current knowledge of policies and procedures as they relate to safe work practices.\r Follow all safety procedures and report unsafe conditions.\r Use appropriate body mechanics to ensure an injury free environment.\r Be familiar with location if nearest fire extinguisher and emergency exits.\r Follow all infection control procedures including blood-borne pathogen protocols.\r\r\rHIPAA/COMPLIANCE\r\r Maintain privacy of all patient, employee and volunteer information and access such information only on a need to know basis for business purposes.\r Comply with all regulations regarding corporate integrity and security obligations.\r Report unethical; fraudulent or unlawful behavior or activity.\r Specify privileges and responsibilities of employment, including compliance with an adverse incident reporting system.\r\r\r Maintains client case files in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations and IHC policies.\r\r\r\rIndian Preference shall be given in accordance with IHC’s Policies and Procedures Section 3, Part 3-1, Paragraph 5
