Summary

This position is located in the Service and Production areas of Nutrition and Food Services at the Loch Raven VA Medical Center in Baltimore, Maryland. In this position you will perform tasks with several steps or a sequence of tasks that require attention to work operations.

Work Schedule: This is a part-time position 15 hours per week, Rotating days including nights, weekends and holidays.

Portions and serves prepared food

Follows oral directions, standardized recipes, and guidelines to brew coffee, prepare salads, assemble sandwiches and/or other tasks

Transport and deliver meals and nourishment to patient care areas

Retrieves soiled trays and service ware from the ward areas to the dishwashing area

Maintain food temperatures during meal service

Label, date and store foods

Utilize proper methodologies to prevent food borne illness and food contamination

Retrieves meal and nourishment data from the computer

Sets up assigned work station to promote efficient food service

Break down work station after food service

Cleaning equipment and utensils used in day-to-day performance of assignments

Washes pots/pans and performs other heavy duty cleaning

Transports trash to designated disposal area

Performs other related duties

IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK CONDITIONS: Incumbent stands and moves about on tile floors for most of tour. Frequently stoops, reaches, lifts, or carries food and kitchen equipment. Hand dexterity is necessary in the utilization of machines used to prepare food. May need to lift up to 40 pounds unassisted or more with assistance.

You will be responsible for following defined safety rules to avoid hazards associated with the operation and cleaning of steam and electrical equipment used in Nutrition and Food Services. You must use proper procedures in lifting and moving heavy objects to avoid bruises, strains, and other injury. Must be alert to avoid falls on wet floors, bums and scalds from hot foods and equipment, cuts from knives and other equipment and injury from improper use of chemicals. Must have ability to work rapidly, yet efficiently to meet meal schedules and time frames. You will work in areas subject to change in temperatures when required to enter refrigerators or freezers and loud noises when In production or ware washing area. You will be required to wear protective clothing provided when entering freezer, safety belts when lifting, slip proof shoes. You must be neat and clean at all times and follow standard set for proper uniform compliance.
