The incumbent serves as a Housekeeping Aid Leader in the Environmental Management Service at the VA San Diego Healthcare System (VASDHS) located at Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC), Oceanside, CA.

Responsibilities
Provide on the spot training to the employees with proper trade techniques and practices.Explains safety precautions to be followed in setting up machinery and equipment.
Give instructions in the use of layout techniques and materials.
Sets the pace and gets work started and completed to acceptable environmental care standards.
Coordinates work activities with the Custodial Workers and communicates with the Supervisor regarding scheduling of rooms for optimal cleaning and utilization.
Keeps a stock of cleaning materials and equipment needed to do the work.
Independently perform a full range of cleaning duties in the assigned building or other areas.

EXPERIENCE:
A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C.
SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT
: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. The potential eligibles are then rated against the remainder of the questions. The screen-out element for this position is Ability to lead or supervise as a Housekeeping Aid Leader.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Note:
A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
Physical Requirements:
Constant physical demands such as standing, stooping, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, carrying, bending, and reaching. Incumbent may be required to lift up to 50 pounds. Normal lifting/carrying is in the 25 pounds range. Incumbent may be required to use six foot ladders and single or double deck scaffolding in cleaning operations.
Working Conditions:
Work within the majority of environmental sanitation operations. The work activities are performed indoors where light and ventilation are good. On occasion work may be performed outdoors. Work is performed in environments e.g., Operating Suites, Intensive Care Units, Clinics, In-Patient Units, etc. which are often stressful; requiring adjustment to other medical center staff operations in the same confined area with emphasis given to quick response and detailed workmanship for maximum utilization of patient care spaces. Incumbents' work unit must observe safety regulations and work in a safe and efficient manner. The work unit exercises extreme care and caution in accomplishing tasks while working around sophisticated/delicate patient care equipment. Technical guidance relating to
work performed on or around patient support systems is provided by the clinical staff in the respective areas. They are exposed to dirt and disagreeable odors. Normally, there is a chance only of minor injuries (cuts, bruises). The incumbent is exposed to dirt and disagreeable odors and is exposed to conditions adherent in cleaning tasks such as chapped hands, and irritation from cleaning compounds and detergents. There is a chance of minor injuries (cuts, bruises). In some work
situations, the incumbent may have limited exposure to low levels of radioactivity.
