Summary

General Information

This is a year-round position. In order to be eligible to receive consideration for this position, you must be able to: (1) report to the duty station location listed in this vacancy announcement, if selected; and (2) be available to work the schedule identified.

The work schedule may be adjusted during school breaks and the summer period.

Salary:

GS-02 $11.68 per hour (Step 01) to $14.70 per hour (Step 10);

GS-03 $12.74 per hour (Step 01) to $16.56 per hour (Step 10);

GS-04 $14.30 per hour (Step 01) to $18.59 per hour (Step 10);

NOTE: First time hires to the Federal Government are typically hired at the Step 01.

The full performance level of this position will be set at the grade level at which you are selected.

Eligibility Requirements

In order to be eligible for an appointment under the Pathways Internship Program:

You must be a student accepted for enrollment or enrolled in a degree or certificate program on a full- or half-time basis as defined by the school (certificate program means post-secondary education, in a qualifying educational institution, equivalent to at least one academic year of full-time study that is part of an accredited college-level, technical, trade, vocational, or business school curriculum); and

Enrollment is with a qualifying educational institution such as a high school or state-approved home school; or accredited technical or vocational school; a 2- or 4-year college or university; a graduate or professional school (e.g., law school, medical school); or a post-secondary home school curriculum.

Students currently enrolled must be in good academic standing maintaining a 2.0 grade point average on a cumulative basis.

You must continue to meet these eligibility requirements throughout the duration of your appointment under the Pathways Internship Prgm.

Responsibilities

The USGS OKLAHOMA WATER SCIENCE CENTER

is seeking an associate or undergraduate student working towards a degree in Business, Finance, or Accounting to gain practical experience in priority management, organizational techniques, and administrative support functions.

As a Student Trainee (Admin) you will serve in a trainee capacity, performing routine and recurring development assignments to acquire knowledge and understanding of functions, principles, practices, and methods used in Administrative Support.

Duties include:

Assisting senior administrative personnel in the preparation of a variety of administrative material required to support the organization.

Assisting in recording information necessary to provide data for internal reports.

Receive training in a variety of administrative functions, such as preparing time cards; preparing requisitions for supplies, equipment and services; completing travel authorizations and vouchers; and preparing property transfer forms.

Are There Any Special Requirements For This Position?

Because this position requires travel for official business, the selectee will be required to apply for a charge card within 30 calendar days of appointment. Individuals who have delinquent account balances from a previous Government charge card will be required to satisfy their existing obligation before a new card can be issued.

This is a temporary internship to complete project work that’s temporary in nature. The appointment is not-to-exceed 1-year and can be extended without further competition based on the need of the organization for the work to continue and provided the individual continues to meet the eligibility requirements described below.

GS-02: All applicants must meet at least one of the following to qualify for the GS-02 level:

A. Three months of general experience that included progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled; **OR

B. Successful completion of high school graduation or the equivalent; **OR

C. Equivalent combination of post high school education and general experience, as described above.

GS-03: All applicants must meet at least one of the following to qualify for the GS-03 level:

A. Six months of general experience that included progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled; **OR

B. Successful completion of one year (30 semester hours/45 quarter hours) of education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college, or university; **OR

C. Successul completion of an intensive, specialized course of study of less than 1 year. Courses of this type normally require completion of up to 40 hours per week of instruction rather than the usual 20 hours per week, and are usually of at least 3 months duration. Such courses may have been obtained through a variety of programs such as those offered by business or technical schools, and through military training programs. To be creditable, such a course must have been designed specifically as career preparation for the work of the position being filled, and must have provided the applicant with the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to do the work; **OR

D. Equivalent combination of post high school education and general experience, as described above.

GS-04: All applicants must meet at least one of the following to qualify for the GS-04 level:

A. One year of general experience that included progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled; **OR

B. Successful completion of two full years (60 semester hours/90 quarter hours) of education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college, or university; **OR

C. Equivalent combination of post high school education and general experience, as described above.
