This position is a member of the Fraud Prevention and Labor Standards (FPLS) Division. The Customer Service Specialist makes independent decisions representing the Contractors Registration Section. As the Customer Service Specialist, you are responsible for understanding and applying applicable laws regarding Contractor Registration and providing clear explanation and direction to customers. You will approve and process new applications or relicense an existing registration, renew existing registrations, cancel and reinstate bonds and/or certificates of insurance, update the system with a new bonds and/or certificates of insurance, address changes, and all correspondence received for processing.

Some of what you will do:

Review incoming documents required for registration to determine accuracy and ensure compliance with Contractor Registration laws and take appropriate action based on determination.

Approve and process a variety of documents and correspondence related to the Contractors Registration Section.

Notify customer with letters outlining the reason documents denied and the instructions to correct the documents to expedite compliance.

Answer phone lines and respond to email inbox. Incoming calls and emails expand over a wide variety of inquiries and topics from different stakeholder types and a range of topics surrounding laws, rules, and processes.

Educate contractors on obtaining a registration, the requirements to stay compliant, and information regarding having employees.

Provide consumers with information regarding specific contractors, general requirements of a contractor and inform them of their rights and responsibilities when hiring a contractor.

Walk customers through the online process for renewing and reinstating registrations, and obtaining information as well as instructing them how to fill out applications for various state agencies.

Coach insurance agents on best practices when updating contractor insurance certificates.

Who should apply

Must have a minimum of a high school diploma or GED equivalent with two (2) years of experience in customer service providing assistance related to consumer inquiries, and/or complaints.

Ability to learn, understand and apply laws and rules and communicate clearly verbally and in writing.

Heres what we are looking for:

Patient with exceptional customer service skills and proven ability to effectively handle complex or difficult situations.

Strong communicator, verbal and written, able to defuse and address customer / interpersonal conflicts and complaints.

Attention to detail and accuracy; skilled in reviewing written information, correcting errors and omissions.

Proficient in using Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and able to learn agency specific software and databases for research and data collection.

Excellent critical thinking and reasoning skills.

Ability to evaluate and discern relevant and admissible facts, evidence and other information obtained in complex issues.

Excel in fast-paced work environment, able to deal quickly with rapidly changing situations and competing priorities, remaining professional in stressful situations.

Skilled answering telephone calls, assisting customers, transferring calls and taking messages

Work collectively and collaboratively in a customer centered, team focused environment.
