Performs routine static and dynamic organ radioisotope scanning and associated routine wet laboratory procedures to produce graphic and numerical results for the diagnosis of pathological conditions.
Essential Job Functions
Performs daily quality control on nuclear cameras.
Performs organ imaging tests including full skeletal, cardiac blood pool, and major vascular blood pool tests; and lung, liver, spleen, kidney, bladder, brain, thyroid, placental, tumor, salivary gland, pancreatic, parathyroid and scrotal images, and cysternogramsutilizing gamma cameras,and/or stationary camera devices.
Performs dynamic tests such as thyroid flow, qualitative cerebral perfusion, qualitative liver perfusion, renal perfusion and filtration, bladder residual volume and peripheral vascular perfusion utilizing external detectorsor a stationery camera imaging device.
Performs metabolic in-vivo turnover tests including thyroid uptake, thyroid stimulation, perchlorate discharge, and rose Bengal excretory tests utilizing collimated scintillation crystal detectors.
Monitors radioactive disposal.
Needs venipuncture skills to inject required radiopharmaceuticals.
Explains nature of procedures to patient, allays patient's fear and gains patient's cooperation.
Obtains witnessed consent form from patient when appropriate for the procedure.
Obtains screening history from patient when appropriate.
Calibrates rectilinear scanners, gamma cameras, stationary cameras and detectors preparatory to conducting nuclear medicine tests.
Transports patients to and from the nuclear medicine department.
Selects the appropriate equipment operational mode to conduct a specified procedure.
Sets up shielding and materials for physician's administration of injected isotopes.
OPTION I -
Completion of an accredited* training course in nuclear medicine techniques.
OPTION II -
One year of experience performing nuclear medicine technologic procedures under the direction of a qualified physician in a clinical nuclear medicine facility.
Current certification by the American Registry of RadiologicTechnologists in Nuclear Medicine (AART-NM) or Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB).
III - MODERATE:
Includes standing or walking most of the time, with bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, and reaching; includes working on irregular surfaces, occasionally lifting objects weighting over 25 pounds, and frequent lifting of 10-25 pounds.
A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.

Bachelor of Science* in Nuclear Medicine Technology from an accredited* university.
This examination will consist of an evaluation of education and experience; and desirable qualifications based on application information, weighted 100%.
Candidates must achieve a score of 70% or higher on this examination to be added to the eligible register.
Applications will be processed on an as-received
basis and those receiving a passing score will be promulgated to the eligible register accordingly.
The names of candidates receiving a passing grade in the examination will be placed on the eligible register in the order of their score group for a period of twelve (12) months following the date of promulgation.
NO PERSON MAY COMPETE IN THIS EXAMINATION MORE THAN ONCE EVERY TWELVE (12) MONTHS.
The resulting eligible register for this examination will be used to fill vacancies throughout the Department of Health Services as they occur.
Appointees may be required to work any shift, including evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.
