This position is responsible for performing developmental assignments and support to Human Resourcess Specialist managing programs in various Human Resources areas such as classification, employee benefits, recruitment and placement, compensation, and drug and alcohol testing.
Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include:
Providing administrative and clerical support to the Human Resources Office.
Providing support in obtaining up-to-date payroll data, generating ad hoc reports, and running these reports in support of the various HR initiatives.
Maintaining human resources subject-matter files and office copies of various publications.
Assisting with compensation computations and assiting with salary table adjustments.
Providing day to day support to Human Resources Specialist in support of the agency's Human Resources Programs.

In order to be eligible for a Pathways Intern Program appointment, you must be a student enrolled or accepted for enrollment as a full or part-time degree (diploma, certificate, etc) seeking student in an accredited high school, technical or vocational school, 2-year or 4-year college or university, graduate or professional school. Selected candidates will be required to submit a copy of their transcripts and a letter of enrollment or acceptance for enrollment prior to appointment.
To qualify for the GS-3 level: Applicants must possess 6 months of general experience equivalent to at least a GS-2 in the federal service;
or High School Graduation or equivalent;
To qualify for the GS-4 level: Applicants must possess 1 year of general experience equivalent to at least a GS-3 in the federal service;
or 2 years above high school.
To qualify for the GS-5 level: Applicants must possess 2 years of general experience equivalent to at least a GS-4 in the federal service; or 4 years above high school.
Combining Education and Experience: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements at grades GS-5 and below.
General experience includes supporting an office by performing clerical or administrative duties such as typing correspondence, answering telephone inquiries, and maintaining a filing system, record keeping procedures.
In addition to meeting experience or education requirements, applicants for these positions must possess a 40 words per minute typing speed. Applicants may meet these requirements by passing the appropriate performance test, presenting a certificate of proficiency from a school or other organization authorized to issue such certificates by the Office of Personnel Management local office, or by self-certifying their proficiency. Performance test results and certificates of proficiency are acceptable for 3 years.
National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
The Office of Personnel management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees. If you are currently, or have been within the last 5 years, a political Schedule A, Schedule, C, Non-career SES or Presidential Appointee employee in the Executive Branch, you must disclose this information to the Human Resources Office.

You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.
