Human Resources Assistant
The Human Resources (HR) Assistant performs duties in the Human Resources Office at the VA Medical Center in Bath, NY. The HR Assistant provides direct assistance to the Human Resources Team consisting of the Human Resources Officer, Supervisory HR Specialist, and Human Resources Specialists who direct and oversee all personnel functions for the Bath VA Medical Center.

Perform lower level staffing and recruitment, and assist HR specialists in the various stages of the recruitment process.
Conduct and coordinate the onboarding of new employees.
Apply pay setting in accordance with applicable regulations and policies.
Respond to inquiries regarding applications, job announcements, and hiring procedures.
Serve as the program coordinator for Benefits, Child Care Subsidy, and Transit Benefit.
Write, revise, and update policy statements on personnel management programs.
Greet visitors and screen calls for forwarding to HR staff.
Communicate with high level contacts from congressional offices, news media, veterans organizations, and state and local officials.
Schedule and coordinate appointments, interviews, and meetings for HR staff.
Manage office supplies and equipment and prepare work orders.
Perform other related duties as assigned.

Specialized experience includes performing basic administrative HR duties, providing administrative support for a Human Resources department, or performing various Human Resources functions for an organization.
GS-07 grade level:
One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience includes providing comprehensive support to an HR department, or performing specialized HR functions such as recruitment, HRIS, employee/labor relations, benefits, etc.
There is no educational substitution for the GS-06 or GS-07 level.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
