Virginia Tax works directly with individual and business taxpayers and local governments to ensure the Commonwealthâ??s revenue is collected and taxes administered with fairness, diligence, and integrity. Virginia Tax's Refund Review Team in the Office of Compliance seeks a professional senior tax auditor to provide leadership, guidance, and technical assistance to a team of auditors regarding complex desk audits including individual and corporate tax cases using standard accounting principles, auditing techniques and knowledge of federal and state tax laws to determine compliance with VA tax laws under Title 58.1 of the Code of Virginia. The senior auditor will direct a staff of auditors to ensure case inventories is well managed; taxpayers, tax professionals, attorneys and other customers are communicated with in a timely and professional manner; and that issues are well researched to ensure that appropriate conclusions are reached. This position is located in our central office in downtown Richmond, VA. Overtime is required for this position.
Minimum Qualifications - Experience in a team lead or supervisory role, with experience hiring, directing, training, and evaluating audit staff in daily work activities in a tax or government environment - General knowledge of state and federal income, corporate, and withholding tax laws, rules and regulations - Working knowledge of accounting and audit terminology and techniques - Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, with taxpayers, industry groups, and other state agencies, legislators, and Department of Taxation management - Experience with working independently with minimal direction and also in a team environment - Experience with solving problems in an effective manner - Experience with using Microsoft Windows, Word, and Excel to combine and manipulate data in an effective manner using database and spreadsheet applications - Experience with handling multiple tasks and priorities while maintaining customer focus
Preferred Qualifications - Prefer a baccalaureate degree in business with a minimum of 12 credit hours in accounting and auditing
Special Requirements The selected candidate will be prohibited from performing tax or accounting services for compensation during or outside business hours. A background investigation including criminal history and tax records check will be conducted.
