These positions are located in Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, in the Maintenance Division, Buildings & Utilities Branch. Although work is performed all through the park, employees will report to work at the Maintenance Compound in Bushkill, PA. Please visit find a park

for additional park information. Duties will include trash pickup and restroom maintenance.

These positions are Full-Time temporary positions not-to-exceed 1039 regular hours (about 6 months) in a service year. Positions may be terminated sooner or extended depending on management needs. Individuals selected under this vacancy announcement are eligible for rehire in subsequent service years.

The typical seasonal entry-on-duty period for Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area is May - September/October, but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. Anticipated Entry on Duty: May 2018

Travel, transportation, and relocation expenses will not be paid. All travel, transportation, and relocation expenses associated with reporting for duty in this position will be the sole responsibility of the selected employee.

Responsibilities

Major Duties: Will drive from location to location, getting in and out of a large truck multiple times a day, emptying multiple trash cans with bags that weigh 50 to 60 pounds each, at each stop. Trash cans must be emptied by hand, requiring multiple lifting of bags into bed of truck. Trash is handled multiple times, manually loaded into trucks and then again into dumpsters or compactor. Performs semi-skilled and unskilled maintenance on Park restrooms. Performs custodial duties such as mopping, sweeping, and cleaning restrooms and remote toilets. Work includes pickup and removal of trash, sometimes large dumpsites and roadside litter. Operates and performs operator maintenance on a variety of vehicles such as dump trucks, stake body trucks, and trucks with trailers

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Moderate physical effort is used in constantly reaching, bending, turning and moving hands, arms, feet and legs to handle different sets of controls to operate equipment and attachments. Subject to considerable strain from vibration of equipment. Frequently lifts, carries and moves items of various sizes and shapes weighing over 50 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Will be exposed to weather and temperature extremes while working outdoors, under all weather conditions. Will be exposed to biting insects, poison ivy, dirt, dust, grease, solvents, paints, and bad smelling fumes; noise from equipment and power tools.

Applicants must be at least (1)18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and: (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or

(c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education; or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program.

Qualifications

OPM Job Qualifications System for Trades and Labor Occupations (as specified in the Office of Personnel Management Handbook X118C Job Qualification System for Trades and Labor Occupations), will be used in determining an applicant's qualifications. There is no specific length of training or experience required; however, the applicant must be able to demonstrate through experience shown in the resume materials that they possess the skill level that has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of a Maintenance Worker without more than normal supervision. Examples of qualifying experience, operating a 1 one ton pick up truck to transport supplies or personnel and operating a farm type tractor.

To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors:

1. Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision (SCREEN OUT)

2. Operation of motor vehicles

3. Ability to interpret instructions, specifications, etc. (related to mobile equipment operation)

4. Ability to drive safely (motor vehicles)

5. Ability to operate safely (non-motor vehicles)

6. Reliability and Dependability as an motor vehicle operator
