The incumbent of this position works within the GLA pharmacy and performs the full range of pharmacy technician functions in support of Pharmacy Service operations for both inpatient and outpatient. These functions include processing medication orders, controlled substance processing, inventory management, sterile product compounding, and unit dose processing.

Maintains good work flow patttern to keep outpatient prescription waiting time to an average of 30 minutes or less.
Orders a variety of pharmaceutical products including those provided by the prime vendor or other pharmaceutical supplier.
Establishes and maintains appropriate ordering intervals and inventory levels based on budget, seasonal variations in drug usage, changing patterns of medical practice, etc.
Maintains accountability of daily purchases.
Receives and verifies drug deliveries.
Interprets physician's orders and fills prescription.
Triages patient inquiries.
Operates, maintains and troubleshoots automated equipment.
Performs other duties as assigned.

In addition to the Basic Requirements above, to qualify for this position at the GS-6 level, you must meet the following requirements:
Experience: You must have at least one (1) full year of creditable experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-5). To be creditable, the experience must have required the use of knowledge, skills, abilities, and other characteristics associated with the scope of pharmacy technician practice and the pharmacy technician experience must be documented your resume.
NOTE: Experience must be fully documented on your resume and must include job title, duties, month and year start/end dates AND hours worked per week. A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience as a Pharmacy Technician is credited according to its relationship to the full-time workweek. For example, a Pharmacy Technician would receive 1 week of full-time credit for each 2 weeks of half-time work. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
In addition to the basic qualifications and requirements of the grade determination, you must fully meet the following competencies at the next lower level (GS-5):
* Ability to operate and care for automated dispensing devices and equipment.
* Knowledge of, and ability to perform, aseptic technique.
* Knowledge of basic inventory procedures.
* Knowledge of pharmacy information systems.
In addition to the basic qualifications and requirements of the grade determination, you must fully meet the following competencies at the GS-6 level:
* Ability to solve problems and make recommendations, e.g., troubleshoot operational problems and refer for appropriate action.
* Knowledge of the operation and care of automated equipment.
* Knowledge of, and ability to follow, written instructions for compounding with aseptic technique for hazardous materials such as oncology agents.
* Knowledge, and ability to perform, compounding with aseptic technique for routine sterile products.
* Knowledge of policies and procedures for inventory management in specialized areas such as emergency carts.
* Knowledge of the computerized prescription process demonstrated by the ability to input prescriptions and medication orders.
