This position is located in the Directorate Medical Services (DMS), Family Medicine Department, Naval Hospital, Oak Harbor, Washington. The mission of the Family Department is to provide comprehensive outpatient medical care to a broad cross section of patients with both common and complex, acute and chronic diseases; to include deployment related medical conditions.
The selectee provides a full scope of outpatient primary and preventive health care services to patients of all ages (to include pediatric and geriatric) assigned to Naval Hospital Oak Harbor, Washington.

The successful selectee will perform the following duties:
Provide a full range of Family Medicine Services, e.g., examine, diagnose and treat patients of all ages.
Perform or assist in the instruction of other health care professionals in accordance with clinical privileges.
Prescribe and dispense medications as delineated by the Pharmacy and Therapeutic Committees.
Participate in peer review and performance improvement activities.
Perform limited administrative duties which include maintaining statistical records of your workload, operate and manipulate automated systems.

Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification is required.
A favorable T-3 background investigation is required.

Must be able to obtain an interim and/or final (e.g., confidential/secret/top secret, etc.) security clearance prior to entrance on duty AND must be able to maintain the required level of clearance while employed in the subject position. Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if the applicant fails to report to the scheduled drug test appointment. Incumbents of drug testing designated positions will be subject to random testing. Applicants must meet the following Basic Requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must possess:
DEGREE: Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada that is accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association; Association of American Medical Colleges; Liaison Committee on Medical Education; Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time my degree was obtained. A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school must provide education and medical knowledge equivalent to accredited schools in the United States.
RESIDENCY: 4 years of residency training or equivalent experience and training in Family Medicine (i.e., 3 yrs. Residency & 1 yr. fellowship and/or experience). Your resume must reflect that you have a sufficient level of expertise in Family Practice to perform the core privileges of this position at the GP-14 Level.
LICENSURE: Current, active, permanent, full, and unrestricted physician license to practice medicine in any state, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
Satisfy BUMED clinical privileging requirements which, in addition to the above, includes the following: Completion of a Family Medicine residency approved by the American specialty board or AOA, board certification, or board eligible.
Current clinical competence (e.g., privileged to independently practice as a Family Practice Physician within the past 2 years, actively practiced within the past 2 years by having encountered a sufficient number of clinical cases to represent a broad spectrum of the privileges required).
No health status contraindications to granting clinical privileges.
Board certification is desired but not required.
In addition, your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GP-13 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. This includes, but is not limited to, the following: providing medical care and examinations of patients for routine, acute and chronic conditions; determining the need for consultation with other specialists; prescribing and dispensing medications; and evaluating the quality of care provided to patients and identifying opportunities to improve care.
SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR:
This position has a selective placement factor that will be used to screen out ineligible candidates. The selective placement factor is: Possession of Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
