Description

The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) employs nearly 2,300 team members operating 10 institutions, which house approximately 5,200 inmates, statewide. Examples of Work

Schedule psychiatric appointments and issue inmate passes. Pull medical files for providers and return files when done. File clinical notes and documentation in a timely manner. Make copies of materials. Accurately type narrative, numerical and/or statistical information from rough/revised typed drafts, documents or voice recordings. Gather information and data from other areas of the department. Accurately disseminate information and documents in a timely manner, while maintaining confidentiality. Arrange meetings and take notes. Greet and screen visitors and telephone calls. Complete various forms and distribute as necessary. Efficiently maintain a filing system for Mental Health. Accurately maintain databases related to psychiatric and mental health functions. 

Qualifications / Requirements

REQUIREMENTS: Experience in performing secretarial support work, involving the use of personal computers, office equipment, and associated software such as word processing, spreadsheet, data management, graphic/presentation, and web/internet applications.

PREFERRED: Minimum 6 months experience performing office/clerical/secretarial support functions. Experience working in a health care setting. Experience using Windows and Microsoft Office applications.

OTHER: Type 40 wpm net. Typing test will be given to top candidates. Must submit to security background check. Applicant accepting a job offer must pass the pre-employment medical exam and a drug test. Once at the Staff Training Academy, must successfully complete the fully paid Nebraska Department of Correctional Services Training Program. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Must be able to type at 40 wpm net (with accuracy). Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Access, Outlook and Excel. Knowledge of basic formats of written business communications, including grammar, spelling, punctuation and composition. Ability to operate a variety of office equipment, including multi-line phone, fax, scanner and copier. Must be able to maintain confidentiality. Must be able to prioritize workload, handle multiple tasks and follow written/oral directions. Must be able to maintain timely, effective communication with supervisors and staff.
