Under supervision of the director of operations, performs at the full performance level work by investigating complaints alleging discrimination in violation of the WV Human Rights Act, as amended, in the areas of employment and public accommodation based on race, religion, color, national origin, ancestry, sex, age 40 or above, blindness, or disability as well as familial status in housing cases. Keeps records and prepares reports in all investigations; writes complaints; obtains facts and evidence needed for the investigation; performs on-scene visits, interviews witnesses, complainants and respondents; prepares interrogatories and scrutinizes answers to interrogatories and subpoenaed documentation ***Involves direct public contact as well as contact with insurance representatives, human resource managers, business owners and attorneys; travel to all 55 counties or out-of-town is required and may require the use of a personal automobile; a valid WV operator's license is required; may be required to deal with situations which are potentially dangerous; excellent oral and written skills are necessary to write clear and concise reports and complaints--proofreading is required; and performs related work as required. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Training:

Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited four-year college or university.

Substitution:

Experience as described below may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required training.

Experience:

Two years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in investigative work.

Special Requirements:

Possession of valid West Virginia driver's license and the availability of an automobile may be required. Qualification to possess and use firearms may be required.
