IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

This position require military membership in the Puerto Rico Army National Guard (PRARNG). If you are not a military member of the PRARNG (i.e. Airman, civilian, active duty Soldier, prior service, guard member from another state, reservist, IRR, State Guard, etc.), you must contact the Recruiting and Retention (R&R) Office at (787) 289-1400 extension 2015 or 2008, and request the PRARNG Military Basic Requirements (MBR) Certification. If the MBR certification is not submitted, or you do not meet the requirements to be a member of the PRARNG, your application will not be screened. Certification and instructions to request it, are available at http://www.pr.ngb.army.mil/hro/

AREA OF CONSIDERATION:

Area 1 = Permanent technicians Enlisted members currently employed in the Puerto Rico Army National Guard.

Area 2 = Enlisted members of the Puerto Rico Army National Guard and personnel that meet all requirements to become a Soldier in the Puerto Rico Army National Guard. (This position requires Army National Guard membership).

First round consideration will be given to Area 1 Candidates. (Area 2 Candidates will be screened only in the event that there are no qualified or recommended Area 1 Candidates).

To prevent a grade inversion, military rank allowed for this position will be determined at the final evaluation of the vacancy announcement considering the military rank of the supervisor.

Acceptance of any military technician position may cause the termination of entitlements and eligibility for all military bonuses and student loan repayments. For further information you must contact the appropriate military Education Office.

Responsibilities

As a COMPUTER ASSISTANT (D1731000), GS-0335-7, you will serve as a focal point in the organization for technical support specialist (a.k.a. Workgroup Manager) duties, providing computer related assistance and support to organizational users.

Physical Demands:

The position may require extended periods of standing, walking, stretching, bending, stooping, or carrying a variety of computer and communications equipment which may weigh as much or more than 45 pounds. May lift heavier loads with the help of a co-worker or lifter device.

Working Environment:

Work is performed in a typical office setting, requiring the use of normal safety precautions necessary for an office environment. The work area is adequately lighted, headed, and ventilated.

INDEFINITE:

This position is advertised against a valid man-year of an employee currently on an Active Duty tour. If the employee does not exercise restoration rights, personnel action may become permanent without further competition, upon recommendation of immediate supervisor, or may be terminated at any time by management decision.

An applicant selected for an indefinite appointment will occupy a full-time position without a specific time limitation. A technician in this type of appointment does not work towards permanent tenure and can be terminated at any time with a 30-day notice. The permanent status of a current permanent employee will not change in the event of a selection for a position that is being announced as indefinite. If a current permanent employee is selected, the position will be filled as a Temporary Promotion or a Change to Lower Grade. Employee serving under a temporary promotion may not retain a grade or rate of basic pay held during the temporary promotion. Failure to meet or comply with the following requirements will be basis for non-employment or removal from employment, as appropriate. National Guard Membership is required.

Proper protective equipment must be used to comply with safety standards.

Males born after 31 Dec 59 must provide evidence of registration with the Selective Service System.

Evidence of identity must be provided to comply with the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 (PL 99-603).

Acceptance of the position constitutes concurrence to wear the appropriate military uniform.

Possess or be able to acquire a SECRET security clearance.

May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.

Continued employment in this position is contingent upon satisfactory completion of the mandatory training specifically identified for the position.

Individual selected must enroll in the Department of Defense Direct Deposit / Electronic Fund Transfer Pay Program.

Loss of military membership will result in immediate loss of your full-time military technician position.

Excepted Civil Service Technicians are required to maintain a MOS/AFSC and military grade that is determined by the NGB to be compatible with the assigned technician position.

COMPATIBLE MILITARY ASSIGNMENT:

In order to achieve compatibility prior to effective date of personnel action, individual selected must be eligible for military assignment to a paragraph and line number in one of the following ECMF 25.

Individual selected for this position who is not qualified in one of the mentioned BR/CMF/MOS, MUST submit to HRO, before date of appointment, the correct military paperwork/application to attend the technical training school required to be MOS Qualified. If selectee fails to process the school application and does not successfully graduate from the school, he/she will be terminated from the technician program for failure to meet the compatibility standards and receive a 30 days notice of separation.

Qualifications

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience, training, or education which demonstrates the applicants ability to follow directions, procedures, or systematic work methods which gives evidence of the candidates ability to perform this work.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicant must possess more than TWELVE (12) months of specialized experience performing or supervising duties such as providing guidance on technical aspects of computers and system use; working with network management and information assurance personnel; connecting peripherals, and performing systems startup; installing, upgrading, and maintaining configurations for new or updated software; providing software application assistance; researching and performing upgrades to workstation; monitoring Local Area Network (LAN) upgrades and software releases; promoting and publicizing security awareness and performing routing inventories to keep track of computer supplies.

Education

Study successfully completed in a college university, technical or vocational school may be substituted at the rate of one academic year of study (30 semester's hours or 20 classroom hours of instruction per week) for 6 months of specialized experience. Courses must be directly related to the work of the position. Copy of student transcripts or training certificates must be included in order to receive credit for education. Unofficial transcripts from internet or with alterations will not be considered. To receive credit for education the information must be included in the education section of the Resume.
