About the Position:

This position is in the Defense Civilian Intelligence Personnel System (DCIPS). Employees occupying DCIPS positions are in the Excepted Service and must adhere to U.S. Code, Title 10, as well as . This position is located at the U.S. Army Intelligence and Security Command, 902D Military Intelligence Group, 310TH MI Battalion with duty location at Fort Meade, Maryland.

Responsibilities

Implement new techniques as well as enhance the general utility of Information Assurance (IA) tools (hardware/software) and methodologies to protect advanced information and communications infrastructure from harmful or malicious behavior.

Design, develop, test, and/or adapt technical solutions using advanced concepts of computer science theory, computer systems and software organization to capture an analyze network traffic data.

Validate authorized and unauthorized activity captured by computer/information systems and network technologies in support of the organizational mission.

Travel Required

Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.

Must be able to obtain and maintain a TOP SECRET security clearance based on a single scope background investigation (SSBI) with eligibility for sensitive compartmented information (SCI).

May be required to work irregular, prolonged shifts, holidays, or may be recalled to duty.

In accordance with Change 3, AR 600-85 Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program, incumbent must successfully pass a urinalysis screening for illegal drug use prior to appointment and periodically thereafter.

Must be willing to undergo and successfully pass a pre-employment counterintelligence scope polygraph examination and re-examinations on a periodic basis.

All INSCOM employees may be subject to extended TDY or worldwide deployments during crisis situations to perform mission essential functions as determined by management.

TDY travel may be 33% or more of the work schedule in performance of official duties which could include austere and hazardous locations.

Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid state driver?s license.

Must successfully complete required training and obtain DoD Cyber Crime Investigator within nine months of appointment to the position.

May be required to participate and/or testify in domestic and/or foreign judicial proceedings.

Must maintain acquired skill sets and employ them when needed.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Basic Requirement for Computer Scientist:

Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in computer science or bachelor's degree (or higher degree) with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as experience analyzing network traffic logs to identify suspicious and/or malicious activity and performing computer systems and network technology analysis to identify solutions to unauthorized traffic. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GG/GS-12).
