Responsibilities
The Department of Surgery/Podiatry at the VA Boston Healthcare is recruiting for 1 Full Time Podiatrist.
The successful candidate will have completed a Podiatric Surgery Residency, be board qualified or board certified by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery (or formerly ABPS): possess sound clinical and surgical skills with an emphasis and interested on complicated diabetic limb salvage. In addition to solid forefoot surgical skills, the successful candidate should have advanced midfoot and rearfoot/ankle reconstructive surgical skills. The successful candidates will have documented educational experience and research interest with intent to advance the scientific knowledge of podiatric surgery.

Qualifications
NOTIFICATIONS:
* This position is a Non-Bargaining Unit position.

* Candidates who meet the qualification requirements within 15 calendar days following the closing date of the announcement will be considered.
* This position is in the Excepted Service.
* The Professional Standards Board (a peer-review group) will recommend the grade and salary for new appointments. For internal selectees being promoted, the board will determine grade and HR will determine step in accordance with policy
* Drug Testing Position: Applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA. Applicants will not be appointed to the position if a verified positive drug test result is received.
* Selectee will be required to complete additional forms to proceed with employment process.
* Current and former Federal employees must submit copies of their most recent SF-50, (Notice of Personnel Action). The SF-50 must identify the position title, series, grade, step, tenure and type of service (Competitive or Excepted). In some cases, more than one SF-50 may be required to show a higher grade previously held.
Basic Requirements
:
* United States Citizenship:
Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
* Education:
Degree of doctor of podiatric medicine, or its equivalent, from a school of podiatric medicine approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs. Approved schools are United States school of podiatric medicine approved by the Council of Podiatric Medical Education (CPME) of the American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA) in the year in which the degree was granted.
* Licensure:
License to practice podiatry in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of Massachusetts or Virginia, or in Direct of Columbia. Podiatrists are required to possess full and unrestricted licensure and to maintain current registration in their State of licensure if this is a requirement of the particular state.
* Residency:
Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
* Language:
Proficiency in spoken and written English.
Preferred Experience:
Advanced midfoot and rearfoot/ankle reconstructive surgical skills and experience with Total Ankle Joint Replacement is desired. Minimum of 3 years out of training is desired.
Reference:
VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-4 Podiatrist Qualification Standard. This can be found in the local Human Resources Office.
Physical Requirements:
The physician must be able to perform gross and fine motor movements with sufficient coordination needed to perform complete physical examinations utilizing the techniques of inspection, palpation, percussion, and auscultation, and other diagnostic maneuvers. A physician must develop the psychomotor skills reasonably needed to perform or assist with procedures, treatments, administration of medication, management and operation of diagnostic and therapeutic medical equipment utilized in the general and emergent care of patients required in practice as a physician assistant. The physician must be able to maintain consciousness and equilibrium; have sufficient levels of postural control, neuromuscular control, and eye-to-hand coordination; and to possess the physical and mental stamina to meet the demands associated with extended periods of sitting, standing, moving, and physical exertion required for satisfactory performance in the clinical settings.
