About the Position: This position is located at William Beaumont Army Medical Center, Department of Radiology, Diagnostic Service, El Paso, Tx. El Paso is a jewel in the desert. Nestled between the rugged Franklin Mountains and the historic Rio Grande, this dynamic border community combines the advantages of a major metropolitan center with the ambience and neighborly charm of a modern western town. Just outside Fort Bliss' gates is Sun City, the 19th largest city and one of the safest cities for one its size in the United States. The sun shines in El Paso approximately 302 days per year, earning it the nickname Sun City. El Paso is a thriving big city of more than 800,000, with a great history and a tremendous spirit. From nature to culture to nightlife to shopping, there is something for everyone in El Paso. A true melting pot of American and southwestern culture, the combination is noticeable everywhere. William Beaumont Army Medical Center (WBAMC) has provided care for military personnel and their eligible family members since 1921. WBAMC is one of two trauma centers in El Paso County and provides trauma care to the surrounding community and a full range of medical care to Fort Bliss, which supports over 19,000 troops and will grow to over 37,000 as it undergoes the largest post expansion in the Army.

Perform a variety of radiographic examinations such as cholangiography, myelography (cervical, thoracic, and lumbar), venography, sinography, bronchography, and pneumoencephalography.

Ensure that sterile supplies, contrast materials, catheters and/or other required equipment are laid out in x-ray rooms.

Prepare and administer contrast materials orally, by enema or under close control of a radiologist intravenously.

Perform on the job training of military students.

Positioning patients, explaining procedures, and/or selecting/setting technical factors.

Two year trial/probationary period may be required.

Appointment is subject to the completion of a favorable suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a background investigation.

This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.

May include shift work or rotating shifts (evenings, weekends, holidays).

Moderate to Heavy Lifting 45 lbs.

Position is designated as Inclement Weather Essential. The incumbent must make every attempt to report for work on time and/or remain on duty during severe weather conditions.

Basic Requirement for Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist:

Certification: Public Law 97-35 requires that persons who administer radiologic procedures meet the credentialing standards in 42 CFR Part 75. Essentially, they must (1) have successfully completed an educational program that meets or exceeds the standards described in that regulation, and is accredited by an organization recognized by the Department of Education, and (2) be certified as radiographers in their field. The following meet these requirements: (1) Persons employed by the Federal Government as radiologic personnel prior to the effective date of the regulation (January 13, 1986) who show evidence of current or fully satisfactory performance or certification of such from a licensed practitioner such as a doctor of medicine, osteopathy, dentistry, podiatry, or chiropractic who prescribes radiologic procedures to others. (2) Persons first employed by the Federal Government as radiologic personnel after the effective date of the regulation who (a) received training from institutions in a State or foreign jurisdiction that did not accredit training in that particular field at the time of graduation, or (b) practiced in a State or foreign jurisdiction that did not license that particular field or did not allow special eligibility to take a licensure examination for those who did not graduate from an accredited educational program, provided that such persons show evidence of training, experience, and competence as determined by OPM or the employing agency.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing radiographic examinations and preparing or administering contrast material. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).


Education: A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Diagnostic Radiology/Radiography.


Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9. Add the two percentages.


FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
