Overall Job Objective Description of Work *Salary Grade:  68 * Recruitment Range: $36,761.00  -  $59,876.00*Internal Posting – Only Permanent North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) employees in a permanent full-time, permanent part-time, probationary, trainee, or time-limited position or a layoff candidate with the NC Department of Transportation eligible for RIF priority reemployment consideration as described by General Statute (GS) 126 (State Personnel Act) may apply. This posting is for an Electronics Technician II in our Traffic Services Unit.  Responsible for training subordinate electronic technicians and verification that their day-to-day field work is within compliance with NCDOT standards.  Ability to direct and supervise work by others.  Assists in & constructs signal installations, responsible for diagnosis of malfunctions in traffic signal equipment, etc.  Operates 24k signal bucket truck, assists in & constructs signal installations including installation of aerial spanwire & cable, installation of vehicle sensors in the pavement & the wiring of complex cabinets, performs skilled work in the diagnosis of malfunctions in both microprocessor based & solid state traffic signal controllers & cabinets to the module level, reads & interprets drawings & wire diagrams & effects the necessary installation & repair from same, utilizing both hand tools & field test equipment, responds to emergency maintenance calls both during & after normal working hours. Position # 60020965 Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies Applicants must meet the Education Requirements and all KSAs in order to quality. Qualified applicants must submit an application that CLEARLY reflects work experience that demonstrates the following:Experience in the use of standard test equipment used to diagnose & repair electronic componentsExperience reading and understanding schematic drawings and wiring diagramsKnowledge of the principles and practices applied in the installation, revision, repair and maintenance of electrical and electronic traffic control systemsDemonstrated ability to plan, schedule and carry out work assignments effectively with minimal technical supervisionExperience in applying the principles in the MUTCD, NC DOT Standard Specifications, NC DOT Roadway Drawings and the National Electric Code  Additional Expectations: Safety toe shoes required. Class  B CDL with  endorsements required. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements Associate's degree in electronics from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of experience in the repair and maintenance of a variety of specialized electronic devices, preferably including some responsibility for circuit modification; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
