Summary

Civilian employees serve a vital role in supporting the Army mission. They provide the skills that are not readily available in the military, but crucial to support military operations. The Army integrates the talents and skills of its military and civilian members to form a Total Army.

About the Position:

Serves as the Mobilization, Deployment and Stability Support Operations Specialist for the Installation under the Army Community Service (ACS) Division Chief.

About the Location:

Fairbanks Alaska is host to many different cultures; unique shopping and dining facilities; as well as sporting activities such as fishing, hunting, hiking, camping, snowboarding, and skiing; and viewing of spectacular Northern Lights displays and larger than life ice sculptures. Population of Fairbanks is about 87,000. Winter brings consistent snow conditions from November through March. Winter temperatures average 8 degrees F to -19 degrees F; summer temperatures rise into the 70s and 80s.

The advertised salary range does include applicable locality pay or Local Market Supplement.

Responsibilities

The Deployment & Stability Support Specialist will advise command leadership regarding Operation Resources for Educating about Deployment and You (R.E.A.D.Y.) and related materials for use in preparing military service members, civilian employees, and their family members for military operations.

Conduct readiness training.

Establish and maintain the installation Family Assistance Center for on-and-off-site locations.

Provide direct pre-deployment, post deployment, and mobilization assistance to military service members, family members, and civilian employees.

Complete soldier readiness processing for deploying service members.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the education/and or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes assisting in providing coordination and advisory services for a variety of mobilization and/or deployment issues such as identification of required crises responses and support plans. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).

OR

Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work of the position, such as Accounting, Financial Management, Financial Counseling and Planning. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
