The McGuire VA Medical Center consists of a complex tertiary care healthcare facility with 349 operating beds and four outpatient clinics in Fredericksburg (2), Charlottesville and Emporia. These facilities provide some of the finest medical care and cutting-edge technology in central Virginia.

Responsibilities

Hunter Holmes McGuire VA Medical Center, Richmond, Virginia, is in search of an energetic, driven, visionary leader in healthcare to serve as the Chief of Quality Care Management (QM). The Chief of QM is accountable to the Chief of Staff of the McGuire VA Medical Center in Richmond, VA. The Chief is responsible for the management and day-to-day operation of the QM Service as well as the sustainment and spreading of the core concepts of clinical quality management throughout the medical center and Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs).

The Chief of QM will be responsible for ensuring continuous survey readiness and will possess a broad and comprehensive knowledge of the many regulatory and oversight bodies to which the Richmond VA is subject. These include but are not limited to: the requirements of the VISN 6 Survey Readiness team, Joint Commission, VA Office of the Inspector General (OIG), Commission on the Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The individual selected will possess a thorough knowledge of the various standards and regulations that these organizations apply to the organization through oversight reviews.

The RICVAMC is a 409 authorized bed, tertiary care facility providing services for all medical sub-specialities. In addition it has the largest acute spinal cord injury center in the VA system; a poly-trauma unit (traumatic brain injury center); Parkinson's Disease Research, Education and Clinic Center (PADRECC); a Geriatrics and Extended Care Unit (Center of Excellence), a Diabetes Center of Excellence and a very active clinical research program as well as basic laboratory research in various areas.

This VAMC is closely affiliated with the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine and provides extensive training to medical students, residents and fellows. There are active fellowship programs in all medical sub-specialities. Comprehensive health care is provided through primary care to about 55,000 unique Veterans in the area.

The preferred applicant should have a record of leadership as a clinician, administrator, researcher and educator. Knowledge of Joint Commission requirements and that of other accrediting bodies is essential. As a member of the Executive Leadership team, the preferred applicant must be a skilled interpersonal communicator and have the ability to promote staff excellence as well as meet performance measure goals while utilizing the most cost-effective methodology. The applicant should be eligible for academic appointment at the associate or full professor level, and is expected to practice medicine at the Richmond VAMC in their field. The Professional Standards Board will determine salary based upon specialty.

Physical Requirements: The physical requirements of this position include lifting, prolonged standing and sitting, frequent bending, walking (distance), climbing, reaching (overhead, extensive/repetitive), repetitive motion and stooping. The mental/sensory requirements include recall, reasoning, problem-solving, hearing, speaking clearly, writing legibly, keyboarding, reading and logical thinking. The environment's pace can vary from steady to a sometimes fast pace requiring handling of multiple priorities, frequent, sometimes intense customer interactions, and the ability to adapt to frequent changes in a sometimes noisy environment. There may be the need to use personal protective equipment to prevent exposure to disease, illness and hazardous materials.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.

Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.

Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.

Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.

Proficiency in spoken and written English.
