Summary

This position is located in the Office of Administrator, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). You will serve as the Senior Advisor to the Administrator and/or Deputy Administrator, handling sensitive issues, contributing to meetings and providing guidance on behalf of the Administrator and/or Deputy Administrator, conducting special studies and projects, analyzing and assessing key policy and program issues, providing policy advice, preparing briefing papers, participating in strategic discussions with senior agency officials, Congressional and White House staff, and industry experts and stakeholders and otherwise accomplishing a variety of assignments.

The ideal candidate for this position possesses good organizational skills and is capable of garnering support throughout the organization. NHTSA is looking for someone who is highly motivated, who can facilitate processes, and who can communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, at all levels of the organization.

Responsibilities

As a Senior Advisor, you will:

Evaluate and analyze highly complex and sensitive programs and policies and recommends proposals.

Participate and lead in the development of recommendations, plans of action, and alternatives on a variety of policy issues.

Provide advice and counsel to the Administrator and/or the Deputy Administrator policy, process, and administrative matters.

Provide written and oral briefings and proposals to the Administrator and/or Deputy Administrator for use in meetings, conferences, and strategic planning sessions.

Serve as a liaison within NHTSA and to other DOT modal administrations, the Office of the Secretary, other Federal Agencies and Stakeholders.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Qualifications

To meet the minimum qualifications for this position, you must the specialized experience requirements for the grade at which you are requesting consideration.

For the GS-14, to qualify on Experience, you must have one year of specialized experience equal or equivalent to the GS-13, it must include:

Experience providing support and guidance to Senior Officials in developing and implementing programs and policies.

Experience preparing guidance and proposing and executing new initiatives.

For the GS-15, to qualify on Experience, you must have one year of specialized experience equal or equivalent to the GS-14, it must include:

Experience providing support and guidance to Senior Officials in developing and implementing programs and policies.

Experience preparing guidance and proposing and executing new initiatives.

Experience advising senior managers, technical experts, and/or executives on concepts and methods related to innovation deployment programs.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
