The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (SHA) Office of Traffic and Safety/Traffic Engineering Design Division (Hanover, Md)
is recruiting for a Project Manager (Transportation Design Engineer IV)
position. This position is open to anyone who meets the minimum and
listed below. This is a position specific
recruitment. The resulting list of eligible candidates will be used to fill this vacancy, and may be used to fill future vacancies in this classification within the Traffic and Safety/Traffic Engineering Design Division (Hanover, Md.)
This position serves as a senior level Traffic Engineer Designer and Project Manager in the Traffic Engineering Design Division (TEDD). The individual reports directly to the Team Leader of the Traffic Control Device (TCD) Design Team and is responsible for managing, coordinating, and performing various tasks necessary to produce work for in-house and/or consultant prepared TCD and Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) design statewide. This position is accountable for design and management of multiple projects, including area wide projects and complex/innovative highway and/or geometric improvement projects, generated by TEDD, District Traffic, or other lead design offices in the State Highway Administration. The position is also responsible for managing one or more of the TEDD programs ranging from asset management, signing, traffic signal UPS or LED roadway lighting.
Possession of a Maryland Professional Engineer license, in the appropriate option, is required. Evidence of license must be presented at the time of appointment.
Two (2) years of experience in traffic control device design, traffic engineering, and/or highway engineering.
The preferred candidate should have the ability to design and review traffic control device plans, especially for complex and/or innovative highway and/or geometric improvement projects to ensure the design elements are in accordance with the current policies, standards, and guidelines including but not limited to the MDOT SHA TEDD TCD Design Manual, ITS Design Manual, the Maryland Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MdMUTCD), American Association of Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) Policy on Geometric Design, AASHTO Roadside Design Guide, Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE), Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), National Electrical Manufacturer's Association (NEMA), National Electric Code (NEC), National Electric Safety Code (NESC), Code of Maryland Regulations (COMAR), and Maryland Vehicle Law. The candidates should demonstrate the capability to handle multiple tasks, maintain effective working relationships, and perform independent work under minimal supervision from the Team Leader. The candidate should communicate effectively and possess good customer service skills.
Licenses & Certifications
An applicant's current license as a Professional Engineer in a state with comparable requirements acceptable to the Maryland State Board for Professional Engineers, in the appropriate option for which application is made, will be accepted but the applicant must obtain a Maryland license within twelve (12) months of appointment. Evidence of out of state registration must be presented at time of appointment.
Possession of a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland
