The Scientific, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Student Employment Program (SSEP) is a direct hire authority for undergraduate and graduate degree seeking students enrolled in scientific, technical, engineering, or mathematics majors. Students must be continuously enrolled on at least a half-time basis at a qualifying educational institution. Students may be appointed to temporary (NTE 1 year), term (NTE 4 years) or flexible term (NTE 120 days past graduation) appointments. Duties can vary based on the Division for which selected. Examples of Scientific and Engineering student duties include:
Collecting, computing and analyzing data.
Identifying discrete microwave components and assembling subsystems such as antennas or transmitters.
Assisting with flight software to control payloads and spacecrafts, software testing and documentation, technical specification generation, and spaceflight hardware environmental test support.
Designing, developing, and testing both back-end and user-interface software.
Conducting observations and documenting findings of instrument malfunction, deviations in defected data and its cause.
Performing mathematical computations.
Fabricating, formulating, testing and evaluating novel multi-functional coatings, paints and composites.

To be eligible for the NP-02 Pay Band you must meet the following required level of education:
*Completion of 4-years of post-high school study leading to a Bachelor's degree (or more advanced degree) with a major in Physics or a related degree that includes at least 24 semester hours in Physics. Courses must have included a fundamental course in general physics and, in addition, courses in any two of the following: electricity and magnetism, heat, light, mechanics, modern physics and sound. *We encourage you to submit documentation (acceptance letter, enrollment verification, transcripts, etc.) to verify this information.
You are eligible if you are currently accepted for enrollment or enrolled in an accredited college (including 4-year colleges/universities); advanced degree programs; or other qualifying educational institution pursuing a qualifying degree on at least a half-time enrollment basis.

GPA Requirement: This position requires you to currently possess and maintain an overall Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0 or greater. GPAs are rounded to one decimal place. For example, 2.95 rounds to 3.0 and 2.94 rounds to 2.9. Your GPA must be reflected in your resume.
Any of the following educational institutions or curricula that have been accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the secretary of the U.S. Department of Education:

Conversion may be to 1301,1310, 1320 series positions within the NP career track at the 01 or 02 pay band levels depending on your highest attained level of education after meeting all regulatory requirements (including qualification requirements), and upon the recommendation of management.
