Position Description
Bldg. Maintenance Inspector I – Detention
Evaluates and reports on contracted services and property conditions in **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. detention facilities. (Jails)  Assists the Section Supervisor with developing scope and specifications for service contracts. Maintains and prepares drafts of contracts, addenda, and changes. Prepares reports, maintains records; and understands contract specifications. Actively reviews the activities of service contractors to assure compliance with the contract. Inspects the service provider's performance and makes recommendations for contract changes. Act as a liaison with tenants, FPM supervisory personnel, and contractors to implement terms of contracts. Performs assigned inspection duties around adult inmates and law enforcement personnel. Walks to various County correctional facilities to perform routine inspections and actively review the activities of service contractors to assure compliance with all contract terms and Texas jail standard. Performs follow-up inspections of reports or complaints of unsatisfactory conditions received through Customer Service or tenants. Inspects work performed by vendors in adult detention facilities under contract to Facilities and Property Maintenance (FPM) for accuracy and quality. Determines and defines damages due to vandalism, misuse or abuse. Communicates with vendors and customers in the field as necessary. Closes completed work requests in TRIRIGA Facilities Center.  Performs other duties as assigned.
High School graduate or G.E.D. equivalent. 
Additional Requirements:
Must have good interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. Communicate diplomatically on a routine basis with contractors and tenants.
Ability to: Maintain a calm, professional demeanor at all times. Prepare and understand contract documents. Gather and organize information and prepare reports to maintain accurate schedules for inspections, repairs, work tasks and other scheduled services.
Proficient in MS-Office  Must have a valid Texas Driver's License and cellular phone for the conduct of county business.
Must be able to pass a security check and drug test, as required.
This position is Safety Sensitive and subject to random drug and alcohol screening.

Associates degree in business, property management or engineering related field. One (1) year prior contract development experience. One (1) year prior contract compliance experience. Two (2) years building systems, maintenance, or commercial HVAC, mechanical, electrical, or plumbing experience.
General Information
The primary work area is a typical office environment with reasonable climate control. The position does not require lifting or physical exertion beyond very modest levels. May work outside in all kinds of weather may work with no air conditioning or heating. Duties may require working on ladders and scaffolding; duties require standing, sitting, bending, stooping, climbing and lifting up to 50 lbs. for emergencies, stretching in cramped and awkward positions. May be exposed to dust, dirt, paint fumes and etc.
40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 8 hours per day within normal core office hours, but also subject to work early morning, evening, weekend, 24-hour on-call, holiday, and during emergency and disaster conditions, as required. Emergency situations may require extended overnight stays and 24-hour on-call status. 
Based on 26 Pay Periods

Entry Level: A person with this level of skills has the ability to open, create, save and modify documents in Word, send and receive email in Outlook and create spreadsheets in Excel. Format documents for printing, comfortable using the printer menu to preview documents. Has ability to change the font, the margins, insert or delete pages and use the built-in spellchecker and grammar check.
